Yes, you are right. I haven't noticed it before.
Some shops in here don't attract people to come in with a special name or unusual exhibitions. Actually, they scare me away, because wanting to buy (for example) one thing I feel guilty that I bought just it.

What (the hell) do you expect seeing Poland after two horror events like aircrash (when the most important poeple from the government died) and flood?
You become as deppressive as Polish reality or do you maybe want to challenge more optimistic people to change your attitude?!
If so, here you are: I love my country and I think it's great although people are sometimes or often too melancholic.
Gossiping is flourishing on PF, congrats, foreigners. So far, so good.

I had a problem when I heard from my friend "I like you very much."
Did it mean:
1). He was a "victim" of a love from "first sight".
2). He liked me.
3). He found me attractive.
4). Other options ......
Till today I don't have a clue what did it mean.

I think it's rather a part of growing up which has to make you to feel like stupid.
Everything was ok, after some time things started to spoil.
It is rather psychological question if anybody wishes to answer would be great.
Where are borders of freedom in relationships as you probobly noticed.

A friend I met while I was studying spent almost 3 years with her boyfriend.
The key for her was to give him freedom
They didn't control eachother. He spent his time the way he wanted. So was she.
My friend even didn't notice when they became almost strangers for each other.
It's too long story to describe but as a result, he started to have had his own life (she had no idea about his new companionship), lied, flirted with many girls, was visiting his girlfriends parents, going for weekends with new friends.
As a student of psychology that girl knew that if man feels free he will always come back to her. He did in fact.
Breaking up wasn't nice for my friend. She heard something like :"Well, I am not sure if you will not want to be with me again", "you aren't resposible, you don't know what you want, you don't want to grow up or similar b**** like "you wanted to be on a lonely island and I even wanted to be with you there".
My question is: where are borders of freedom in relationship?

I've heard recently Krystyna Kofta, a great Polish felietonist who said that Polish women are the wickest on the world.
There is sth in the statement, but I still naively believe that it's not true.
I was hurt by many of my female friends. Till today I don't trust very easily people and I am very cautious when I meet new ones.
In fact, when I am on the top, I have friends, when I am not, I don't have them, they seem to disappear then. People live their lives and very often use other (who for some reasons are on a weaker position) for their personal advantages.
I hate it but I still try to believe in friendship, although it's not easy for me.

An example of Polish good manners:
A family meal:
I was invited on a dinner to meet my friend's parents.

There was a lot of food on a table + ... mushrooms.
I had already had potatoes and a meatball on my plate + some vegetables.
- You are so thin - I heard at first.
I wanted to take a few of those mushrooms from the table to taste them.
I heard from my friend's mother.
"Ohhh, these are mushrooms just for Piotr." She was berserk, almost furious.
- Oh..? - I asked. I felt like an idiot who didn't deserve for mushrooms.
I said I just wanted to taste them.
But I felt I had to give those three small pieces of mushrooms back.
My friend's mother was angry. Piotr even hasn't noticed that mushrooms went to the bowl again from my plate.
At second time at my friend's place I heard from his mother:
- Oh, if you lived here I would give you more food to make you fatter.
Piotr in the meantime has eaten a soup, a dinner, took a carrot salad that was put in a small bowl in front of my plate.
- You eat like a bird. You have to eat more - said his mother to me.
Piotr looked at me.
Then he burped.
It was my last visit there.
I do like Poles.
Some of them.

Life / Poland and Shakespeare [23]

I thought at first it was extraordinary, not for students from "szkoła średnia".
I liked Mackbeth but an interpretation for me seemed to be too difficult then.
It was like touching an unbelievable, misterious story which forces imagination to act a role in a play that started to exist somewhere inside people's heads.
I remember moments form lessons of Polish language when Macbeth was readed (not played) and was trying to be interpreted by us.
I felt like a viewer of secret play that engaged interior senses. I remember a plot a bit, personas of a tragedy, scary bloody sceneries... although it was weird because the main difficult thing about it was to find words to name what were we thinking or felt about it.
It was a great adventure, but unfinished, that leaved a feeling of being in almost perfect world of imagination that had to involve everybody in my class.
A strange but exciting experience.

It becomes a tool for a secular/not secular debate about a sense of Church/ cross/democracy etc. these days. It is also a question about what does it mean to respect point of view of others

The taste of those actions against cross are signed with a bitterness IMO.
Somebody called this action "żenua". Somebody called it a shame for a christianity and Christians.
In fact it is a matter of a taste.

A cross divides poeople these days - many say those words in news.
It's has always been one of the most important symbols in my country.
What it means for Polish people? Who knows it? Everybody can say what the cross means for him.
The war against the cross is just a natural state of fight and defence...
Just like Torq said in one of his posts. "Being Polish means to stand for something." Many people stay for a cross. Because it has a meaning form them.
For many it is a symbol of democracy and freedom... A symbol of suffer.
So why do media call it a war against cross?
Do these people want this war?
They just want to have a right to show what they feel. They want to expose their emotions and values a cross brings...
