/is destroying society

One would argue that the way that PiS have placed many ex-PZPR men and women into high positions is very much the sign of destroying society.

These people are valued for their blind obedience, not their knowledge.

Why not be civil? Why are the right wing so aggressive?

It's remarkable that the huge march in Warsaw passed off very very peacefully without problems. Meanwhile, the march on the 10th of December saw bitter PiS voters attack a journalist.

Anyway, Radom is also apparently trying to organise something. News when I get it...

Koszalin - Rynek Staromiejski.

I see that those in charge of PiS are not bothered at all

If they weren't bothered, the Dear Leader Chairman Kaczyński wouldn't have abused and insulted the 82% of adult Poles that didn't vote for them.

They didn't expect that ordinary people would stand up against them and they just can't handle that.

Yes, it seems that Kaczyński completely failed to acknowledge that people were capable of organising without the help of political parties.

Anyway, another demonstration abroad to add to the list :

Toyko - Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Japan, 2-14-5 Mita, Meguro-ku, Toyko 153-0062 at 15:00 local time.

News / Reactions of Poles to Negative Publicity from the Foreign Press [56]

So called opposition are just irresponsible trash and traitors.

Calling people "trash" and "traitors" is exactly the kind of thing that's coming out of PIS at the minute. What kind of person goes around calling Polish people those kind of names?

Worth pointing out that the PZPR also called political opponents all sorts of names, including comparing them to Germans.

Always good to see a PIS supporter trying to insult those who support democracy.

It's exactly these constant insults - "traitors", "Gestapo" and so on - that are helping put so many people on the streets.

People have a choice - they can sit back and watch as PiS destroy this country by ignoring the Constitution, the law and by changing the civil service law so they can appoint endless cronies to senior positions - or we can take to the streets and show them that we won't accept it.

update : Not confirmed, but Tarnów is apparently joining us on Saturday.

Add another to the list :

Zielona Góra - outside the town hall (Ratusz) in Stary Rynek.

News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

Anyone that wonders why there are demonstrations all over Poland and abroad on Saturday should look at the posts above. The attempts to insult, berate and put down KOD show exactly what we're fighting for - our free and democratic Poland.

That's a drone camera film of the protest.

The camera doesn't lie.

These demonstrations are growing in number, and we will keep at it until PiS learn the basic rules of law and democracy, neither of which they respect.

Toronto - Consulate of the Republic of Poland - 2603 Lakeshore Blvd West.

Join us. Everyone is welcome.

What matters is the fact that at the last count, there are over 20 separate demonstrations on Saturday. That matters.

Latest information : Kielce will also hold a demonstration, although the location is waiting to be confirmed.

News / Reactions of Poles to Negative Publicity from the Foreign Press [56]

They're not leading the march. KOD welcomes everyone regardless of their political affiliation. The fact that they choose to attend as private citizens is their choice, but the people behind this are the people of Poland.

I smell fear, though.

As for the "paid money to attend", it's the usual smear employed by the right wingers. We don't talk about how PiS pays for buses from villages to attend their marches :D

Except this is a genuine citizens movement, not something organised from the top-down like the average highly controlled and stage mangaged PiS demonstration.

adverse criticism of current events in Poland.

Not really. This is just a typical overreaction from a populist government that can't stand the fact that CNN journalists aren't afraid of them. They can harass and insult journalists in Poland, but they can't touch foreign ones.

I urge absolutely everyone that cares about Poland to attend one of these demonstrations if you can. These demonstrations are about urging the President and government to stop treating the Constitution like a piece of trash and to behave in accordance with the law.

Law / Family law in Poland - want the Polish children back to the Irish courts [53]

Harry will be along in a bit, but frankly speaking - your best bet is to find a private detective willing to take them out of Poland. Once they're out of Poland, you can use the guardianship papers to ensure their return to Ireland. Poland will not respect the Hague Convention, and you can expect the Polish family courts to believe any old garbage she tells them.

And just because either Greggy, Ironside or Polonius will be along soon to say something about the lack of protests abroad :

London : Embassy of the Republic of Poland, 47 Portland Place. 19.12 at 12:00.

I've been told that there will be demonstrations in Brussels and in Berlin too, but nothing official yet.

News / How would Poland change for the better (or worse) under a PiS government? [257]

Banks wants profits

Not only banks, but their investors. When you consider that PKO and PZU (who will both get absolutely hammered by this tax) are owned by the government and institutional investors such as pension funds, it means the "ordinary man in the street" is taking a double hit through increased charges and lower returns.

Furthermore, if PZU and PKO have less money, then it means less money for them to buy up the competition in Poland and abroad.

Lowering of retirement age will make old age pensions LOWER.

Indeed, and it was pointed out repeatedly that women are going to suffer immensely if they're subjected to forced retirement at 60.

Blimey. I've got a small investment in a fund that invests 55-60% in the WIG20, 30% in government bonds and 10% in the WIBID 6M, and since I opened it a few years ago, it was always positive. Not a huge amount, but overall, it was around 4-5% a year. Just checked, and it's lost around 7% since the election.

Language / Polish minority languages [13]

But Silesian (at least that what is relatively commonly spoken) is pretty much Polish + accent + few German words here and there.

Maybe on the Polish side of the border, yes - but I've spent quite a lot of time in what the Poles would call Zaolzie, and it's clear that it's a different language and not quite Czech or Polish.

I've been watching some documentary about Belarusian speakers in Poland, which is fascinating - does anyone know if they actually speak Belarusian, or is it something closer to Polish than real Belarusian?

I've been listening to this Kashubian anthem today, and it's remarkably charming. But Kashubian seems completely unlike Polish - what's written doesn't seem to bear much similarity with speech.

News / Don't let Poland become like my country, France. [630]

No, your illiterate, i am talking about Les Republicains.

"your" ;)

They where the winners of this elections, not the Socialist Party that ruined France and caused Charlie Hebdo and Bataclan with their so called Multiculturalism.

You obviously have little to no idea about LR. Many of them are business owners that support immigration to provide cheap labour, similar to the German CDU.
