Travel / Visit to Krakow and Warsaw [12]

However, if you want to visit the Wolf's Lair (actually not that much to see) you should stay in Gdansk - it's a long way from Warsaw.

Surely, you mean Wałęsa`s house in Gdańsk?

If not, what do you mean?

Travel / Visit to Krakow and Warsaw [12]

And I have heard Krakow can be somewhat dangerous to tourists especially brits, is this correct??

Only to quarterwits.

Halfwits should make it safely somehow.

Which one are you?

We plan to visit Wolf's Lair when we are there, has anyone here been before?

You mean PiS headquarters?

Travel / International places for Poles to visit where they can feel welcome and at home? [5]

I don''t know many places where the poles are welcome

Because you are a halfwit who hasn`t read a single book in his/her life and know nothing about Poland and others. Get lost back onto your tree and let good monkeys take over! :):):):)

Any other examples where Poland can be found in the hearts of the local people?

Croatians like Polish tourists.

hahahaha, check your tire pressure... hahahahaha

Man (or woman, whatever), After reading these musings, I must say you are nuts! How often does it happen to you? :):):):)

There are hundreds, if not thousands of things. :):):)
Lets list some then. Strawberries

Sure, strawberries are important.

However, even more important are tuition fees.

London University, Queen Mary, medicine - £9,000.
Queen Mary will be charging per year from September 2012 for Home and EU students (see our International section for International students tuition fees) for undergraduate entry from 2012 and we will put into place a significant package of scholarships and bursaries to ensure access for all. A range of Government loans and grants is also available.

qmul.ac.uk/undergraduate/feesandfunding/2012tuitionfees/index.html

Warsaw Medical University, medicine: 0.000PLN = £0,000.

Isn`t it just great? :):):):)

PS. Higher education at renowned state universities in Poland is free.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of things. :):):)
Lets hear some of them then....
It basically scales down to scarcity and availability.

Oh, I see!

OK, let`s see.....

Cracow 3D Kid Film Festival, late 2011 or 2012 productions to see, each for 5 PLN - 1 quid.

Life / Which services is Poland still waiting for? [218]

Most of the big supermarkets have them here in the UK. Many family's and especially kids save their loose change and pocket money for several months, even years, and cash it in for notes before going on holiday etc.

Wow! I am really impressed to see such a cultural difference between Poland and UK.

Life / Which services is Poland still waiting for? [218]

Wow! So much effort to install so many points all over the world in order to converse loose change into paper? ?????

I don`t believe it!

Is this something that would go over well in Poland?

Sorry, no. It will never catch on in Poland. I collect some change during the week but on Sunday we drop it onto the tray at an RCC service or donate to gypsy beggars in streets. I suppose many Poles do, too.

Come on, don`t you have enough paper money in the market in your countries? ????

Travel / No warnings to soccer fans going to Euro 2012 about Polish drivers and Polish roads? [40]

Don`t be silly.
No need to issue any stupid warnings.
When I see a foreign car, I stop and let it go. And most Poles behave like that because it is our traditional Polish hospitality. It is in our genes.

PS. OK, one warning might come in handy. It should look like that: Don`t try to immitate the Polish style of driving. It is the road to hell.

drivers rarely indicate before manoeuvring.

It is a lie. Most drivers indicate, a few don`t.

I had to google to find out what it is. :):):):)

The firm's original focus was the conversion of loose change into paper currency,

Oops, no coinstar point in Poland yet.

Sorry, there is one at the Hel Seal Aquarium. But it converses paper notes into loose change:):):):):)

Is it all right?

LOL, what about my American Passport?

You are going to come about 20 years too late. :):):):) You should have come in 1980s.

Sorry. Sometimes I get an impression there are more foreigners than natives in Krakow. Your passport doesn`t matter anymore.

Life / Let`s compare prices of services and products in Poland [359]

Its curenlty being looked at because some dentists are lying cheating scum...They're charging for private treatment that its actually covered under the NHS...

Ooops.

Beer in pubs:

Krakow - 5 PLN = £1

europeanbeerguide.net/krakpubs.htm

Edinburgh - £3.10
expatistan.com/price/beer/edinburgh

How about a full car service, i think i paid something in the region of 200 PLN in Poland as apposed to about £80 in the UK, PL still looses on the price to wage ratio but its still cheaper pound for pound.

How come do I take all your revelations with such a big grain of salt, can you tell me? :):):):)
a full service should include:-
tyre pressures including the spare
all the levels checked and topped up if neccessary
oil and filter
all filters changed oil fuel air pollen
antifreeze strength tested
wheels off and brakes checked cleaned and adjusted if neccessary
full under vehicle inspection of exhaust, joints and bushes etc.
wheel checked for play and wheel bearings or worn ball joints
spark plugs changed
battery tested
road test to determine any driving faults if any ie clutch bad tyre wheel bearing etc.
all lights and washers and wipers are checked
How much? all depends where you go our garage would charge approximately £170-£180 main dealer would be a lot more-it all depends on a garages labour rate really
.

In Poland, car service ranges from 59 zlotys to 499 PLN = £10 - £100.
feuvert.pl/uslugi/pakiety-przegladow.html

In UK, from £119.00 to £240.00.

Life / Which services is Poland still waiting for? [218]

I have thought of another service which may be needed in Poland - bespoke / made to measure ...shoes, suits, dresses.

Sorry, I cant` say bullseye because it is a complete miss!

I had my first tailored suit made in 1980s.

As for dresses, my half sister is a garment designer who works for this company: fularazywczyk.eu/en/individual-design

As for shoes: meskaelegancja.fora.pl/przewodnik-miejski,5/jerzy-bukowski-szewc-krakow-ul-slawkowska-11,33.html

etc etc.

Also I have never seen a window-cleaner for private residences. I think there is something in this - as cleaning windows from the outside is for some people a bit of a bind and a firm equipped with lifting equipment might just be needed.

You must have stayed in Poland 10 years ago, I suppose. Today, there are hundreds of firms which offer such services.

turboclean.pl
cleanwindows.pl

Come on. Don`t you think it would be nice if you refreshed your perception before providing outdated or even false info?

Admit it, you snapped the photo because of your bleeding-heart feelings towards the wheel-chaired presenter (seen on the photo) of this crudely done and crumbling exhibition. :-)

Nope, the boy on the wheelchair was just a visitor.

This would put this scene into the historical bracket of 1792 (Polish-Russian war) and Kościuszko Insurrection of 1794.

Yes. The Battle of Racławice.

my second guess would be "Krakusi" from 1812-1814 period -

No need for second guesses but thank you for elaborate lecture, anyway.

PS. Guys, at the farthest end of the diorama, couldn`t you see two Krakow peasants attacking a Russian artillery site with their scythes?

The krauts didn't consult a magic 8 ball, or throw darts at a map.

Very possible.

However, could you take into account the fact that I haven`t mastered the skill of creating panorama views with my semi-professional digital camera?

Simply speaking, my pic shows 30% actual size of the diorama.

Try to guess anyway. Look, there are horseriders!!!!

Sorry, no. :):):):):):):):)

Boletus is better at this anyway :)

Isn`t he? He reminds me of a student of mine..... :):):) So intelligent..... :):):):)

Union of welders, steelworkers or something? I see protective glasses on top of their cowboy hats and a fragment of "zawodowy" on their flag. :-)

Yes! Krakow steel plant unionists. Surely, not something. If you ever buy a car made in Poland, it will boast their steel. :):):)

I do appreciate your intelligence.

British NHS has its Polish counterpart called NFZ which fully refunds simple white fillings.
White fillings light-cured cost about 70 PLN = 13 quid, with the exception of minors till 18 years of age.
