Love / Polish girls and jealousy. They always suspect I have other gfs. [33]

Yeah, I did a class for her as a native speaker :) I've taught gimnazjum students before and she was happy with what she saw.

Maybe it has to do with the reputation of some English teachers. They have abused their position in the past and I don't want to be tarred with the same brush as them.

Nah, just laying down positions and getting things straight :) I don't really look too much into it but there is a different dynamic when teaching a female student 1-2-1 at your flat so it's best to allay fears. I mean, we hardly even know each other. I appeared as a guest speaker in her gimnazjum class as a favour and she was happy with that. She wants speaking practice and that's that.

My student said it and my wife fully believes it too. Neither are particularly religious, just moral. You have to behave yourself. All it needs is one stupid move and you have made a bad name for yourself so I don't understand guys that even try it. A wedding ring really does hammer it home how important fidelity is. The days of playing around have to be enjoyed when you have them as marriage is a different ballgame.

I still don't see southern's point completely though I might be able to understand it. Polish guys have libidos like any other and Polish women know that there are quite a few pretty ones around that could go for them and vice versa. My friend's GF is very jealous and has him on a leash, LOL. They are married now so that should lower the level but who knows?

Life / Alcohol problems of Polish people [141]

Alcoholic problem of Polish people?? Well, at least Poles like to share their problems, something for which we should all be grateful given their kind, hospitable nature in homes across the country :)

They are not all jealous at all, southern. My wife, God Bless her, allows me to have female students round at the flat as she knows nothing will come of it. It's money for us and most Polish girls will not try something. I finished a lesson 15 minutes ago and she told me that infidelity is one of the worst sins. I agree fully!!

Suspicion stems from insecurity and a lack of trust!

Real Estate / Is this a bad time to buy an apartment in Poland? [142]

Absolutely. When we walk around the city, I keep telling my wife that I wouldn't like to live there or there in the centre as drunks can smash a window in a drunken stupor. Plus, I don't like living at that level. In Izumo, I lived at the top level. In Hiroshima, on the 10th floor. Here in Gliwice too. It's repeating a trend and tradition.

The glens and lochs will always be there. The provisional notarial deed has been signed and we are awaiting the final one. What lowered the price is that there is no lift and we are on the very top but it's great for my fitness and the stairs are pretty flat as far as stairs go. The location is what attracted me the most. It's only 1 minute further away from my work than I am at present. It would've been over 200k 3 years ago.

Milky, it has a bathroom and we negotiated a boiler into the deal :)

WB, that's what I thought. In PLN and we entered into discussions about any distorting effects of opting for the EURO when it comes around. We went through WGN for credit, based in Wrocław I think. Quite the businessman, their owner ;)

You learn that negotiating/haggling skills are key in Poland. He wasn't prepared to go below 165k but he did and 2k is 2k at the end of the day. There are already tiles in place which I like. The kitchen is pretty much furnished though we need a new fridge and a cooker. Still, it's like a project and a fun one at that.

Seanny, the utility costs soared but I know that a devious and grabbing woman lay behind that decision, not my landlord. There may well be that sound, yes :)

Currency mortgage? I plead ignorance on this one. It's probably sth very simple you are asking but I'm unfamiliar with the terminology. Sorry, a blond moment :(

Thanks, Seanny :) Well, the credit deal means that we will have to pay a lot in the first 3 years but (nadpłaty). Rent went up from 750 to 950PLN in my current place which is still ok. However, we needed a bigger place for a number of reasons. A future kid being right up there amongst the considerations. It works out that we pay much the same, fractionally more, to get our own place. A sudden deluge of new private students will help out the cause :)

History / When will you Poles give back German land and the cities which you robbed? [557]

Crow, though we may appreciate the leadership skills of Mr Putin, we both know how devious he is. He speaks German fluently and understands Germans very well. He won't try anything funny with Tusk and Kommie but if JK was in power, who knows? The man is obsessed with territory, a bit like Messrs Karadzić and Mladić were.

Haggis is an acquired taste but I like it. I think Poles would like British food, esp mince :)

I agree with your 3 points but debts can be a problem. Not such a big one, I concede, as you don't pay for your studies like the English do.

Face it, you love the food there ;)

Zeti, it means that you take care of them by dealing with it. Attend to can also mean that you listen carefully to, as in to attend to the teacher. Attend to is like załatwić/pilnować

Food / No Vernor's ginger ale in Poland? [29]

Pale, that's the point! In all my experience of beer tasting in different countries, I think ales are a notch or two up. They are a taste experience!

For sure, pawian :) 5000PLN a month as opposed to 4000PLN makes the difference when debts need to be paid off.

They clearly couldn't get enough of the culture there :) It's up to 5PLN instead of 4PLN now so there's your reason.

Dariusz, I know both are correct but that wasn't what I was trying to say. They say attend to when it should just be attend. The same with call. Surely that was clear!
