UK, Ireland / Interest in Polish language grows in Britain [19]

True enough! The one that runs the deli in Aberdeen maybe understands hello at the very most. There is sth to be said for the enclave mentality. Give me custom, then feck off seems to be the way.

UK, Ireland / Common pitfalls for Poles learning English [187]

Common pitfall = saying attend to instead of attend, call to instead of call

Give it up, Dariusz. You're falling into your perennial pitfall, losing :)

News / Palikot - too liberal/modern for Poland? [197]

He does come across as an idiot, that's for sure. A very rich idiot! How people like that can earn a fortune is beyond me. Another of PO's band of fools.

What does it mean, 'a clear division of church and state', Stu? For example, I saw churches in classrooms in a gimnazjum school here and I thought they fit in very well. What delineation do you envisage?

No state funding of churches? Do other countries do this?

On the IVF point, he's onto sth good with that.

So companies like Durex go out of business? ;)

Genealogy / Stąpor: Questions about my family [9]

She is certainly not a peasant. She has changed her name now but I could only give you that with her consent. Very elegant girl!

News / Poles DO return to the UK [39]

Well, Thatcher's clinging to national sovereignty hardly appears so weird in hindsight. They were onboard with the Europhiles, she wasn't.

News / Poles DO return to the UK [39]

Ken Clarke was streets ahead. He was one of the smartest Conservative Cabinet members ever. He became a Bilderberger.

News / Poles DO return to the UK [39]

He was the Chancellor of the Exchequer and regularly involved in economic fora, hc. He didn't make the best decisions, true, but he still grasped core ideas. Kenneth Clarke he wasn't.

Life / How Long Before Poland Has Its 'Dumbest Generation'? [84]

Ah, but the Poles will always question intelligently. Look at 10/04/10. I don't imagine Poles to be like you present them above, richasis. They will eventually catch on to the fact that Tusk and Kommie are taking them off down dangerous paths and they will represent the resistance. They know instantly when they are being swicked. Poles are good with gadgets and systems :)

News / Poles DO return to the UK [39]

Many Poles are smart people, they can see what's going on. Even the less educated ones can figure out how to wangle a system or put themselves in place. What happened under Brown was that he was being led down a certain path which his experience highly suggested he shouldn't have gone down. His knowledge of economic principles should have meant that he steered clear but he was a globalist, duty bound to actively facilitate the moving around of people in Europe. It makes them easier to eventually come under umbrella control. He was an ardent proponent of a World Bank, a proper one with teeth.

The whole set-up is designed to be friendly to immigrants. As I said, 5000PLN instead of 4000PLN makes a difference.

UK, Ireland / English Films..What Do Poles Think of Them? [33]

Without question, that's true. I say that as a Scot and you say that as an Irishman. They are streets ahead in the music regard. Comedy is a question of taste but they excel in that dept IMHO.

Work / English teacher from Turkey, have any chance to work in Poland? [71]

Americans get employment here because of the tax dodges for EU TEFL schools. However, EU nationals are more and more preferred and Turkey isn't really a core part of Europe so your quest might be tough. Turks speak Turkish, not English, as their first language. Slavic languages are preferred here.

Real Estate / Is this a bad time to buy an apartment in Poland? [142]

It sounds like you have a brilliant set-up there, WB. Insulation is key. Heating efficiency is a must here in Poland. You can lose so much with the wrong option.

We get a great deal from the utilities perspective but we will have to change some habits in the new gaff. Switching from our current kettle to a standard metallic one on gas will be one of the first things we do.
