News / Don't go to Poland ... because you could end up coming back in a coffin [313]

Well in fact there was some black players in Poland and there was no problems with that.

oh no?

maybe ask the Wroclaw PLFA team about that. Summer of 2010, I hung out a few times with the head coach, black guy from the states, former NFL player, and he was literally run off the team due to racism and had to transfer to another team in another city, as were the other black players that came from the USA to play for the team. believe me, Poland is certainly not ready for integration with black folk.

Shame I will miss most of the tournament due to time differences. ESPN.com is providing free streaming for every game if you live within the USA but basically every game is in the middle of the day here. bummer, I really enjoyed watching it in 2008.

Its no different to you complaints that if it isn't exactly like the USA, then it must be ****

your interpretation.

Luckily for you, some of your compatriots, like the New York mayor, are at last coming to their senses..

for one thing, you're out of your mind if you think it will make even a lick of a difference.

secondly, would you support the same ban in Europe? each and every ban they're proposing is on portion sizes currently available in Europe, Poland for sure.

Also, have you never heard of organic beef?

also, since when do hormones = better meat?

it's not even worth commenting, dude. more weg-ish anti american nonsense.

Dunkin Donuts bankrupt some years ago. TacoBell and Dominos Pizza are't the favourite tastes either.

I can tell you one thing.....a HUGE problem with bringing places like that over to Poland.....it's only Domino's-ish and TacoBell-ish. For example, Pizza Hut in Poland is NOTHING like Pizza Hut in the USA. I mean, it's totally different food. Kinda like Coke and Pepsi products taste totally different in the USA, not to mention the way these restaurants are run and managed in general will be different outside the USA. take that for what it's worth.

everything else about the country and the food is utter shite.

this is why it's not worth even commenting on the bull$hit you type. you're a blatant America hater and there's simply no talking to you. you've got such a hard on for Poland and hate everything America just because it's American.....you can't discuss anything with people like that. you're like a big kid.

not every US state makes good steaks :)

not sure why you wrote that, but for argument's sake, pick a state, any state, and you know as well as I do that 10 seconds on the google will disprove that statement.

nobody expects from Poland exellent steaks... Poland has got other foods to offer.

again, i don't know why you wrote this. yes, Poland has good food. and?

wawa_marek mentioned that poles would enjoy a good steakhouse, I simply bolstered the statement with my own little anecdote, nothing more. try and move on from it.

a bakery who also sell fresh sandwiches cost 5-6 PLN and fresh coffee as well.

made to order? when I walk in and tell them exactly what I want, does the shop clerk spin around and make it right then and there?

even so, like i already said, giving me one store in Warsaw is meaningless. it's not polish culture.

You would be the only customer. Nobody wants a sandwich for lunch, they don't want Macdonald's either as it over priced crap.

oh, right......because you never see people eating sandwiches for lunch in Poland.....and McDonald's is completely empty during lunch time, too. actually, it's empty all day long because it's "overpriced". WHAT are you smokin', weg.

If they wanted it, it would be available.

haha, ok, you just topped your last statement. that's laughable, man.

Anyone can make a sandwich at home. its cold, its boring and its not special.

then why oh why does the entire god damn country eat them at all waking hours, every day?

steakhouse

omg, i brought my wife's family to a steakhouse last year when they came to visit us in the USA....they literally couldn't even speak when the meal came out.....they just ate till it was gone. poles don't know what good steak is......oh, but i forgot, if Poles wanted it, they'd have it, right weg?

what a joke.

Kebabs. And you can buy sandwiches in all sorts of places from grocery stores to small delicatessens. With meat, cheese, eggs whatever.

4 years in Wroclaw, I did more walking than you could imagine, and it's simply not available. I have never seen a deli making fresh to go sandwiches excluding of course Subway, and the only Subway I knew of as of January 2011 in Wroclaw was at Magnolia Park, a good 3 miles south from the rynek.

Tell you what, I will start on the east end of Wroclaw with you and we'll start walking, in a zig zag pattern, to the rynek and beyond.....show me where it exists. You won't find it because I've walked every street there is to walk in that city. It's simply not Polish culture. Great meats, great bread, but if you walk into a deli, you cannot look into the cold cut case and say, "I'd like a sandwich with that bread, that meat, that cheese, with lettuce, peppers, tomato, onion, oil and vinegar, salt and pepper.....and I want you to make it, cut it and half, wrap it up and put it in a bag for me." There is no Subway equivalent, and for anyone that can bring up some random deli in Warsaw or something that actually does this now, it doesn't change anything, it's not Polish culture, and it's a service that would totally kick a$$ and make someone tons of money.

by the way eberhart, how long have you lived in poland?

Good point, but they have Milk Bars. Why get a sandwich when a full meal is the same price. And they do take away ,

because again, it's a "full meal". it's just not as convenient.

much easier to just order a sandwich, it pops out, and you can sit and eat it with your hands and a couple of napkins. not saying it's all in all "better" than having a "full meal", it's just something Poland doesn't have that I constantly missed when I lived there. I'm in a damn rush to get to a 7:30 a.m. class and I want to eat something because I have to teach straight through to 11:00.....what am I going to eat? paczki? i'll pass.

milk bars don't solve the lack of "on the go" breakfast options in poland. sandwiches with eggs and meat and cheese, bagels/rolls with butter, etc., solve that problem.

Something else:

Take out sandwich shops.

Go into a store, order a sandwich, choose your bread, meat/cheese, toppings etc., and leave. So basically......Subway, but not corporate, and everywhere. Mom and pop shops that make all sorts of sandwiches, egg sandwiches with meat and cheese that you can get first thing in the morning on the go, for lunch, etc. Poland is geared towards buying stuff and cooking it at home but for the busy city dweller on their way to work, it's nice to be able to walk past a store, grab a hot breakfast sandwich or bagel, coffee....and keep on going to work.

Poland has awesome hams, sausages, great dairy products.....let the small privately owned shops put the meals together for you for those times where you're too damn busy and don't feel like eating a Snickers and a Fanta for breakfast or lunch.

News / Don't go to Poland ... because you could end up coming back in a coffin [313]

But we in Poland still do therefore I am glad that Poland has a reputation of being a racist country because it stems the tide of African immigration at least a little bit.

There surely are more sophisticated, mature, and certainly less ignorant ways of "stemming the tide", no? I guess if you look at ignorance as a small price to pay to keep out a few africans.....hey, your country.

I am with you on this.Multi culti stuff does create racial tensions and I guess everyone knows it very well it's just that Brits or Americans having such large colored population have no other choice than pretend otherwise.

ha, pretend otherwise? the USA had segregation in the 1960's and racism still runs rampant here. let's put it this way, Obama's low approval rating in the USA isn't just because he's a democrat.

Because they're so prevalent here, plenty of us have freed ourselves from being so ignorant and bias but there are millions and millions of Americans that just never grew out of it. i hope Poles such as yourself will realize that being ignorant towards blacks isn't just ignorance towards blacks....it's plain old ignorance and that attitude will retard the overall progress of your country far more than a few thousand africans living in some dumpy corner of Warsaw.

Life / Let`s compare prices of services and products in Poland [359]

Cinema ticket, stalls, adult, weekend:
Warsaw - 28 PLN = £5.18

London - £15.60

London: 15.60 / 33,994 = .000458

Warsaw: 28 / 66,000 = .000424

That's nearly identical wages to cost.

Also, we would have to consider what kind of movie experience you're getting in each city.

The cost to see a movie in each city is the same, wages to cost. Is the zoo in London anything special that would justify the cost? Some zoos are great, some totally suck.

Also, using London comes with additional consequences. We're talking about one of the richest, most powerful cities on the planet. It comes with far more prestige and general "importance" to the world than Warsaw.

"Because it's London" raises prices to a greater scale than "Because it's Warsaw".

or working on "expat" terms and conditions

nicely worded.

i remember teaching in Wroclaw at a large company, they had an american working there on a 1 year contract, managerial level, and she was given a sweet 2 BR flat in the rynek as well as a car. you can't beat those terms with a stick. oh, and she was getting paid USD, the same salary she was earning in California.

At least 5x more expensive in London than Krakow.

on what scale?

this entire thread is useless without comparing wages to earnings.

when comparing "services", obviously money for money, it will be more expensive in England than Poland. an oil change may cost 30 pounds in England and say 80zl in Poland (random numbers) but after working the exchange rate, it is of course "more expensive" in England.....but if you want to buy plane tickets.....who the hell would want to be earning PLN. In Poland I'd have to blow an entire month's salary in order to fly home and back.....now, I can book the same flight for maybe 6-7 days worth of work.

the point of this thread is to compare prices in Poland vs. elsewhere.....but none of it is of use if we don't have accurate comparisons.

beside, a coffee refill is made only of the ****** tasted one. you won't get a free refill of a cup of good, tasty coffee.

why not?

and let your ass grow bigger and bigger? hell no. it's not healthy.

often times, you go to a restaurant in poland and they pour you one of those little glass bottles of cola and charge you 5 pln for it. it's what......200ml? 4 minutes later your glass is empty and yes, I want another one without having to pay another 5 frikkin' pln to get it. less than a can of soda throughout my entire meal generally isn't going to cut it.

Don't know why you'd want it.

I'm not interested in people's opinions on drive thru, I'd like to know where they are in Poland. Smurf implied they were abundant.

If he told you to jump of a bridge would you?

really? really.

its 58000 miles, where did you get 80,000 from?

i got it from the "I don't feel like clicking on the link and looking for it and I would assume pawian didn't pull that number sqaure out his a$$ being the number is most likely in that link somewhere" bank. I guess if I still don't look at the article and see for myself, and take YOUR word for it, I'm still jumping off the proverbial bridge. nah, I'm still not gonna look.

It's a good thing I don't care about this conversation. We all know Poland is expensive as all @#$@#$!.

Awesome the UK model i listed is actually the S line not the Polish one, would that make up for the difference in miles?

pawian said there's an 80,000 mile difference. if that's true, than I'd say you should go back and find 2 comparable cars with comparable mileage.

Life / Let`s compare prices of services and products in Poland [359]

yeah, i think i'm leaning towards pawian's side here.

mileage makes a HUGE difference in price, as does different models/specs. The S-line? A new S4 in the USA MSRP's for around $49,000 before you even add options. A new A4 is about 40% less. An S-line is a totally different car.

Many of the cars still smoking around the public roads in PL would have been deamed practically worthless and sold for scrap in the UK.

Again, I agree.
