Law / Nasza Klasa, rumoured to be up for sale for €130m [11]

facebook

Ok, but it requires too much time to "nurture" it, not like N-K. I wouldn't have time and will to devote such a big amount of real life to transfer it into virtual, internet "life". Rambling on this forum is enough;)) Anyway who needs blogs, chats and such things?

News / Smoking ban in Polish bars and restaurants (AT LAST!) [400]

If you go into one, you know what to expect.

Yeah, and crack houses, so that you know what to expect when you enter.

So I have stated my alternative. Every one should choose what bar he wants to visit. What's wrong with that?

I just heard of a place in Denmark (I think it was Denmark) where they opened a sort of brothel with... animals. A client can come and pick a sheep or a chicken (?!) or a dog...

What's wrong with that?

I just don't follow that;)

Sure, smoking is a minor matter. But then, you have freedom, or you don't have it. One day, you may say ;-)

Here we agree.

Language / Baby blessing for Polish female baby [7]

You just need to spit over your left shoulder, tell the parents not to dress the baby in anything red and hang a crucifix in its room. Then it'lll be secured. ;)

News / Smoking ban in Polish bars and restaurants (AT LAST!) [400]

The world's first ban on smoking in public places was introduced by who? Nazi Germany in 1941.

Hitler's idea was also t ohave Volkswagen. And Henkel aircrafts used to bomb cities. Now Henkel produces detergents. But you say to ban it all right? Ok...

Interestingly, Hilter, Franco and Mussolini were all non-smokers (with Hitler the most rabid of them), while FDR and Churchill both liked a puff.

So we must start smoking to be on the good side, if I follow???

Are you worried about smoker's health or what?

Everyones' - to some extent, but it is smokers' choice to smoke. But the smoke affects otehers, like non-smokers and this is where I support the ban.

Can we ban homosexuality now?

Are their actions harmful to others? If so - then yes, let's ban it. But for any illegal action a homosexual can face penalty, just as heterosexual or bisexual - doesn't matter.

you certainly seem to a supporter of at least some Nazi policy.

You moved one step too far with this. I will poison your whole antfarm and crap on your door mat for this despicable insinuation. Go have your head check.

If we were to follow your logic, as you say, then all drugs would be free, and allowed everywhere, you hippie!

Olaf, be cool.

No worries, man.

I was the coolest guy in class, so I'm not worried, hahahah.
OMG! I was writing about your post, not his, and what you wrote not him, so IF I was rude to anyone that would be rather you. But I wasn't meaning to be rude.

The problem is that the supporters of the smoking ban think that they should be able to dictate what happens everywhere.

- fundamental rule of democracy. I'm not judging if it's good or bad (totally different topic) but here it works as usual: the majority dictates the minority...

Their problem is

I think the smokers have bigger problem;).

majority of people either smoke or don't give a shiit about whether people smoke

- That'd be ok, as long as the smokers didn't get the whole interior stink. Smoke if you will, but don't affect others. If you are unwilling to do so, we have a law for that now. That's how I see it.

So if non-smokers really constitute a majority

This is a fact. According to different research about 21-27 % smoke.

Right?

I think it's not that simple. It's like for example putting some amount of Cl disinfecting agent to tap water. It is done to avoid potential water-bourne diseases etc. You don't want that in your water because it changes taste etc.? - Well it's lesser evil, that's all.

I see that you don't read with understanding: the quote I used was yours, not Gotum's. And I addressed to what you were writing, not Gotum. I actually agree with what he wrote, only thing I could not agree with was your post. By the way, the car thing was supposed to be a ridiculous example just as your opinion above and you didn't get that either, sorry; my car always starts.

Law / Poland car insurance: cash only? [14]

the renewal date of the car insurance.

This always sucks...

really don't like walking in with 1000 zlots in cash.

What's the problem here?

we could pay

by bank transfer certainly if they are so backward with it. The date of transfer is what counts, so screw them, make them come to your place if you buy full insurance, I do that if I don't have time.

Gotum, I know you are upset but don`t blame all americans. It is US goverment (I wouldnt be suprise if the us goverment would be the third antychrist!) not the civilians.

The government? How in the name ot the unspeakable is it their fault? The guy didn't care about legal side of his residence in Poland, but you say to blame US gov't?! Here's another one: my car didn't want to start this morning. I blame the government for it.

Love / Advice Please! Meeting my Polish boyfriend's parents!! Gifts, customs... [105]

Don't go there without good bouquet of flowers for the mother and a good bottle of vodka for the father. It is like a traditional pay-off for the parents;). It doesn't have to be a bad thing: any mother will look at you better when given flowers and if the father opens the bottle to drink with you then you have made the best impression:)

Travel / Foreign beers in Krakow [18]

Thing is that Pilsner Urquell is supposed to taste a bit bitter (bit more than some beers). Maybe it has something to do with the fact it is the only basic [meaning alkaline] beer. That's why it is very good for people with stomack problems.

History / If i could write European history i would unite Europe under Polish language [67]

There are loads of words in English for which there are no polish equivalents - or at least not easy to express succinctly.

That's a case in every comparison! There are words in Polish that you won't find in English too. That is a proof for what exactly? Nothing. I hope it's not about saying which language is better, because this would be extremely pointless.

By saying that Polish is more rich and complex than English I meant many different aspects altogether, lexis being one of them. And estimating just the number of words in a language is impossible as that are open sets.

Indeed: they let people smoke in pubs.

Oh, come on, it's not this thread, hahahah! I meant that I've never seen such a terrible manner of serving beer - nowhere in Czech rep. have I seen warm beer, grzaniec. Like it or not, beer isn't supposed to be heated. Wine - maybe. Beer must stay cool even in Winter.

Harry, are you going to Brno maybe?

History / If i could write European history i would unite Europe under Polish language [67]

a completely inefficient language such as Polish

You probably don't know the language or little of it if you think so. It is quite rich so a certain amount of complexity mus be present. It is hard too master it too, because of its sophistication, but certainly it is a language that is far more rich than e.g. English. Coming back to the main topic, having just one European language would result in little development of languages, and little diversity, so probably it would be a bad idea. And what would all the linguists be doing then;)??

Staropramen

It's very nice, but my choice would be Starobrno over this one.

there are some very good regional Polish beers

Polish beer is the best, well Czech beer is even better. Czechs seem to know a bit more about art of brewing and - what's important -serving and beer drinking culture.

also some fresh, not pasteurised beers from Browar Witnica and Smocza Glowa (recently changed the name into something similar, Czarny Smok, I think) from local brewery in Krakow. There are some places you can enjoy them from the tap.

News / Smoking ban in Polish bars and restaurants (AT LAST!) [400]

Well, Kondzior, although I think we agreed it can seem controversial (this ban), I treat it rather as a necessary public safety measure which limits the risks and harms to other people caused by smoking habits of some other, addicted people. You can object to imposing such a ban on private proprietors, and I do understand most of the basis of these objections, however, if you can suggest an alternative that would work similarly but also allowed the non-smoking majority of society to frequent bars and pubs and restaurants and children playgrounds (the ban is also about such places, mind you) and use freely bus stops and other public spaces - then I'll happily reconsider my views on that.

Law / Polish Citizenship for a foreigner whose parents was born in Poland [174]

Hi,
This question actually was answered before. In this case it can be simple: if at least one of the parents was Polish citizen at the time when the children were born (i.e. didn't loose or resign from the citizenship etc.) then the children already are Polish citizens according to Polish law. You don't apply for it, they already have it. But to get some confirmation and then for example apply for passports, then there has to be a verification procedure done. This can take something between 3 weeks to about 2 months on average (depending on the number of places that the children were living, number of gov't offices to contact etc.). And there is no need to come to Poland for this, you can do it via your local Polish consulate. The procedure is simple and you just provide birth certificate (sworn-translated if not Polish) and some documents of the parents, passport confirming Polish nationality too.
