Life / Questions about Poland (traffic / fines, school year, talking about past, minimum wage) [21]

It is not frowned upon, it is even appreciated. If the police sees you doing that, you get +10 skill points to your driving license stats and a special sticker to put on your car.

You have been living in Krk for far too long! XD
I would further this and say if it is a homeless old person, getting out the car after running him down and shouting abuse at him( as well as giving him a few kicks) is also promoted by the police;)

News / Poland's Kaczynski blames Russia for brother's death [30]

I'll continue with the phrase "seems to me".... Seems to me that the guy knows he is well past being re-elected and is scraping the remains of a very empty barrel to gain votes.

Unfortunately there still are a lot of voters who would still vote for him and would use this to as an excuse why to. The babka hat grannies comes to mind ;)

Oh and may I just say.... Let the nut job conspiracy theorists follow..........

UK, Ireland / The number of Anti-English Poles... [228]

Aloe vera aftersun, David. It helped me out and I'm milk skinned.

I like the burn ;)

I see Brits don't like the hot just like Poles.

I like it, though only when i'm not working. Hate stuffy units with no air-con.

Life / Struggling young Polish couple - try to solve their problem [176]

Humans are never born equal, that is what makes us human....actually that is what makes us animals. You cannot compare the struggles of one group living in thw west to the struggles of another group living in the third world. They are worlds apart as you well know, what would be a good day for one would surely be a bad day for another.

insult removed. please, be civil.

Work / I am currently 75% through an on line TEFL course & moving to Krakow [35]

All sounds a bit depressing but it isn't that bad. Teaching in Krakow is tough but not impossible to start from scratch. Don't count on private lessons to be the bulk of your income when you first move over. There are plenty of schools out there so get your cv ready and email them before moving over. Best bet as earlier stated would be to try the Callan schools but also depends on what time of the year you're planning on going.

If you need some advice about Krakow don't hesitate to contact me ;)

UK, Ireland / Are Poles in UK really that big of a deal? [112]

Only 3 things will make the world move on. Religion (we have pretty much laughed that one out the window, it's old and declining), War (It's been going on for centuries and yet not one country/countries have exerted enough power to keep the rest below them) and Money (which seems to be the new plan of attack i.e the middle-east, democracy means capitalism in it's greatest form and false freedom for those who live in it).

Imparting a divine influence on the mind and soul day. Oh my giddy aunt.

indeed it is our great welshmen who enjoy their fluffy cloud like companions a little too much ;)

Hey, did anyone actually ask the sheep who they'd prefer to keep them company during the night?

Give it 20 or 50 years and Immigration will be a thing of the past. The only way society can evolve is to get rid of this notion of "national borders".

Life / Living in Krakow from scratch :) [7]

1. What is an average rent payment for a 1 room (that is, 1 bedroom) flat in a descent location? Any websites for real estate agencies are appreciated.

This can ranged from around 800-1500pcm, dont deal with estate agents as they will charge you through the nose for little work. I dealt with one when I first went and was out of pocket by about 10,000 before I even had the keys.

2. What is an average sum one spends for food per month?

I normally spent around 500-600. But some months I could easily spent 1000, but that was shopping for at alma!

3. The same for transportation (mostly public, home to work and back, occasional taxi trips).

90z's was all I paid for a monthly ticket that allowed me to use any pubic transport. Average spend on a taxi from huta to centre was about 30z.

4. Are there any private Polish lessons in the city for English (and Russian) speaking ones? What's the average price for such?

You pay about 900z for a course.

UK, Ireland / Are Poles in UK really that big of a deal? [112]

No offence but most Brits are not not intelligent enough to distinguish between Poles and non Poles

Shut up fool, poles stick out as much as Brits do in Poland.

It's also a fact that Poles are 4 times less likely to commit a crime than the natives.

Yeah right, crimes are committed by the individual not the group, you think folk have tea parties to discuss who should commit what or not?

Life / IS Poland in danger of becoming the next multi cultural sink hole? [201]

The south east asians i shared a flat with in krakow had a different tactic, they done their best to groom Polish/German or any other EU lassies until they agreed to get married. One guy who stayed at my flat was married to a German lass, but also with this could move his whole family to Germany. I got fed up with the guests of my flat so had them move out, but it goes on still and a lot easier than you think.

News / Dumbing-down in Polish schools and the Matura [185]

We use in business and medical field guess what language , yes!!!!! right - polish !

Kinda a problem with that considering every Polish economy and business student has to study texts in English and also pass various English exams throughout their studies. Might not have been the case 20 odd years ago but certainly nowadays yes.

I am educated one and don`t use in my work English language

When did you study Polish law? I can assure you that English is a basic requirement of the course/s as far as my friends/students who study it tell me.

Plus almost every job in Poland which pays any decent amount of salary requires the applicant to at least be able to speak English at a high level. Even counter assistants in supermarkets are required to have an understanding of English.

News / Dumbing-down in Polish schools and the Matura [185]

mostly taken as a second language in the UK I think

Hardly taken. More like forced but with no one paying much attention. It's a dud language and not anything that the majority of job descriptions would ask for. Actually i have yet to see any.

It matters only for those who choose linguistics

And any business/economical/medical ect ect ect.
