Genealogy / Help finding info about Naliborski [23]

Also, many poor immigrants didn't know how to write,

which is why the name was wrong on the manifest.

or the person writing the name at the departure point, usually hamburg, for Poles, got it wrong.

there is a whole history about this at genealogy.com

Life / Moving to Poland - Wrocław/Gdańsk? [11]

Venice of the North! Whatever that means

because of the rivers canals and number of bridges.

The Meeting Place! Whatever that means.

this relates to business.

Wroclove

there are a few tags for this city. wroclove is the most idiotic of them.

wroclaw is always talking about IT, but finding the right job is not so easy.

wroclaw does indeed reach out to all with its various music programmes.

wroclaw will be making a bigger effort with regard to culture as it is/or hopes to be 'city of culture 2016

we also have the 'world games' in a few years. not sure when.

wroclaw is friendly enough and one can manage alone. having a couple of friends with shared interests makes it great.

Get a job... and that will decide which city you move to.

Love / 'Seks po polsku' - the sex lives of Poles: [45]

and its possible to have sex any day of the week with a girl at the local pub.

i always found it rather embarrassing having sex at the local pub. added to that, the guys were always complaining that they needed the pool table for a game.

Love / 'Seks po polsku' - the sex lives of Poles: [45]

The average length of a sexual act (from foreplay to termination) is 28 minutes in Poland, and the length of sexual intercourse, (from the introduction of the penis into the vagina), is 13.88 minutes.

how many acts are there in the play ?

Love / Polish girls want to be dominated. Fact? [63]

the christmas period is not a good time to be planning anything. too much turmoil going on, things getting in the way.

moving into the area and setting up what might appear to be the family home is sending the message of marriage.

she may have been thinking too much, too fast.

i could be completely wrong though.

Law / Public Photography Laws [9]

hhmm interesting, does this mean if a tourist takes a picture of their friend in a crowded place, they cant put it on Facebook?

most folks would and do. if, and that's a big if, someone complains you only have to delete it. it's not going to result in loss of freedom.

flickr has a set of rules. all you have to do is follow them. they also state the law regarding copyright etc.

Law / Public Photography Laws [9]

The rule of thumb is that it's legal if you can remove the person from the image and it will not affect the subject and / or character of the photo.

which is very close to this

they can't take up more than 30% of the frame. so i was told.

take a wide angle picture ... and then (for personal use) zoom in/crop at the photo editing stage.

i have photo of a road traffic accident on the net. those involved have there faces hidden as they are facing away from the camera.

no complaints from anyone so far.

file under the correct title and you may be ok. reportage, fine art etc.

they can't take up more than 30% of the frame. so i was told.

History / Polish Officer in NATO, Col. Ryszard Kukliński. [145]

Sailing isn't exactly a poor man's hobby...

Here I beg to differ,

me too. sailing was one of the main summer holiday activities at one time. plenty people are qualified to sail on the lakes.

Life / Secrets of Poland - what makes it so special? [13]

I'm doing a project on Poland at my University and eventually hoping to hold any type of event that portrays Poland's best assets wether it be funny traditions, laws and beliefs or products that have been invented that we all use - absolutely ANYTHING that I can hold an event with?

your wants and needs have been answered in various forum threads.

Can anyone give me any idea where to start?

the forum search box is a good place to start.

UK, Ireland / Common pitfalls for Poles learning English [187]

What I find really iritating, are the two past tenses

more than two. but it doesn't matter. treat the past as one time, but with different aspects. same for present.

i belong to the school that says there are only two tenses: present and past.

i find it odd that most Poles don't seem to have problems with English spelling.

Life / Supermarket culture rules in Poland? [18]

Correct me if I'm wrong,

as usual, i will.

not warsaw, but here in wroclaw. much the same as it was twenty years ago with regard to the butcher, baker, fishmonger.

there has only ever been one fishmonger in this neighbourhood. still open.
there are more butchers.
possibly one or two bakers out of business.

Language / New Dialects in Western and Northern Poland [24]

I would be delighted if somebody could help me finding answers to this questions.

the problem is the continuous movement of people.

in the uk the bbc and others have been recording old folk as they speak. it's all because the old language is dying out. an example in the uk would be cornish. no longer spoken, but thankfully recorded.

folks would have to act quickly to preserve any differences in Polish language, before those differences disappear.

Genealogy / The village of Surazkowo in Poland (Chomczyk, Czaban, Sawicki) [20]

moikrewni.pl may have the answer.

Rob, you only need to ask once , someone will help you as much as they possibly can.

here is some information from ancestry.com (link provided) boards.ancestry.com/surnames.michaliszyn/15/mb.ashx

if your just starting to do research, you must first try to get as much family information as possible or you will
be searching blindly.

ask for old documents that show town names, where they lived locally, church records, old pictures etc.
gather as much as you can so you can identify all records in your searches as there will be duplicate's with same
surname and if you dont have correct ages and correct information, you will end up with the wrong documentation.

just some helpful hints :)

good luck.
