Ah.....my two favorite posters on Polish Forums. :-)

Sometimes, McCoy....people like to stay where they always lived. And if they consider themselves German, it is no crime. Others liked to stay where they lived in Poland and although German by ethnicity, they Polonized their names. Things like this will always happen when a place was formerly multinational. And I am not just talking about from when Hitler brought in the Reich Deutsche. People who lived for 500 hundred years within Poland, and were citizens of Poland, but ethnically German.

I know because that was my family. Half ethnic Germans that I have traced back to 1700's in Poland. And the others ethnic Poles living in Prussia. Both peoples treated each other miserably at different times. All humans have done bad things to other humans. I have cried tears about what my Poles experience under the hands of Prussianization. I have cried tears over what my ethnic Germans experienced getting caught between Hitler and Poland.

I take people individually rather than name some a derogatory name. And the same with countries today that have a diverse background of peoples. Yes, they are all somewhat proud of their own roots, but it is no crime for an ethnic German to love Poland, or living there, and still feel German.

It is easier for me to understand because in America, we are like Poland used to be. Multinational. We are all Americans, but proud of our Polishness, or Italianness or Germanness.

When it comes to opinions, there is the purely Polish opinion, the purely German opinion and the objective truth. It's nice to attempt to see the objective truth.

there are 153 000 people with polish citizenship that consider themself german

ha haa, my wife has recently told me that she has German grandparents from both sides of her parents which makes her 1/8 German or something, so basically my baby daughter is part kraut, i hope she only gets the good stuff.

Heh:) Your baby is half Kraut...it will be smart, prefers to drive fast and get a moustache soon (better if it's a boy in that case)! :)

PS: If your wife's grandparents and parents were full Krauts that makes her a full Kraut too, not only 1/8 part..

It's nice to attempt to see the objective truth.

But not as much fun....

Your baby is half Kraut

I wouldnt say 1/2 more like 1/16, im 1/4 Irish so work all that out.

Well, if your wife is full Kraut than your daughter is at least half Kraut! :)

She's what we call in America, Heinz 57 after the famous sauce with 57 ingredients. :-)

I think Wroclaw Boy is saying that his wife has one grandparent on each side of the family that is German, so his wife is 1/8 German and the baby 1/16 German, and 1/8 Irish. It gets complicated....so Heinz 57.

I never said she was 1/2 i said her garndparents i.e one grandparent from both sides of her parents.my daughter x1, parents (wife and I) x2, her parents x4 , then granparents x 8, so two of which from the Polish side were full German. i.e one german married a Pole x2.

in Poland we know very well that Jews were murdered en masse.

But Poles in the US and UK don't seem to realize that, so they say things like...

Lots of people were slaughtered. Why classify and then imply one was worse than another?

The fact that people discuss whether Poles saved or didn't save Jews from the Nazis indicates that Poles were in a different situation and were in a position to save Jews (at the risk of death) because they weren't targeted for extinction, yet.

If the Nazi plan to exterminate the Polish speaking people actually reached the stage of being implemented, then there would be no difference. But the Germans were defeated before that could happen, thank G-d.

Yeah...he surely had the most to do with it....I wonder where he was all the time before???

The theological questions that come out of the holocaust have been discussed by smarter people than you or me, people who were there and people who weren't. I would stay away from that topic because it's a dead end.

Again, I just feel so upset reading this. Is one life more valuable than another?

Polish intellectuals were targeted for extinction. There were Jews who survived.

You're distraught that Jews were tortured and murdered. I'm saying that I'm distraught that Jews were brutally tortured and I'm distraught that Poles were murdered. The Nazi plan to exterminate the Polish speaking people was in the works, just wasn't completely carried out, thank God. I don't see sympathy from you for the Poles who were tortured and murdered. That's all I'm asking for.

God watched as everything happened. He's watching now as people are being raped, tortured, murdered, etc. He can't interfere.

Ugh, I so wish I could stay online, but I have errands to do, so I won't be on until tomorrow morning. Have a great day, everyone.

Admit - only JEWS died, only JEWS suffered, only JEWS were the main event/episode of the second war, second war=holokaust

Rest of the dumb, goy sh!ts who were murdered in waaaay greater number than the Jews - feck it, collateral damage.
Right?

Um, yeah, that's why they have a national Holocaust Day in UK. That's why kids get sent on school trips to Auschwitz

Right?

The thing is that no one prevents us from doing what Jews do - meaning to push our causes. They do and we don't. It is similar to American blacks complaining that Korean immigrants own all the stores in black neighborhoods. I say to them: open your own.

What's antisemitic is perpetuating stereotypes like this...

I’ll take it as a complement. So telling someone he should not blindly follow someone’s opinion but rather discover the truth for themselves is anti-Semitic these days, interesting! You have not even bothered to read the whole statement. How is it anti-Semitic? Care to explain it? I call it as I see it, you might not agree with it but that’s the way it is. The greed part in my view is spot on; it’s a pattern repeated over and over again, first there is a smear campaign followed by a payout few years later. This tactic works for you very well but it equates to no more than extortion.

But when we - occasionally - do, we are whining and told to get over it.

I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing. My point is - how many people have even heard of Kolyma. We know of Auschwitz, but Kolyma? Jews make sure everyone in the world knows of the Holocaust, and people should. I don't agree with the uncomparable, without presendent view of the uniqueness of the Holocaust, but if I were Jewish, I might. I would certainly have a lot of support from fellow Jews. I once read something from a Polish prisoner of Kolyma that stuck in my head and here it is:

At the time I did not know about Auschwitz and the smoke above Birkenau, but if I had known and somebody asked me I would have answered without hesitation - Kolyma. In exchange of view we would have asked one another:

What could be worse than death in crowded gas chambers and the dehumanizing disposal of bodies in fiery crematorium?

What could be worse than prolonged suffering from cold, hunger and disease before the body gives in to the white icy crematorium?

gulag.hu/white_auschwitz.htm

It's not the point that Jews play up their suffering, but that we fail to do the same.

I would settle for basic awareness of the crime that communism was. Schools do not do a good job of that.

In the context of WWII there will always be a problem.
Communists were the enemies of the Nazis, the allies of the victors...Stalin the chum of Roosevelt and Churchill.

I would be glad actually if historians could agree at last that there is no one-history-to-fit-all, that for some Stalinism was worse than Nazism and that for some Nazism was the worst of all.

It's still a long way to go...

Oh, bravo!!!! SOMEONE gets what I'm saying! I don't know why the Poles, Gypsies and all don't raise the money and make monuments, museums, etc. There's a lovely museum in Philadelphia. I urge all of you to go. But, sorry, it doesn't hold a candle to the Jewish museums and monuments. How many non-Poles go to that museum? Huge numbers of non-Jews go to the Jewish Museums. I went to both when I was in Philidelphia (about 10 years ago). The Jewish one was more impressive. There's a beautiful Holocaust monument in Boston. I'll post a pic. It's stunning. It is made up of 6 tall towers made of glass. On each tower (etched in the glass) are the 6 million numbers (a million numbers on each tower). These are the numbers that were tatooed on the victims of the Holocaust.

I had a friend whose Polish Catholic father had one of those tattoos. Why don't the Catholics make a similar monument with the tattoo numbers of the Catholics that were killed? If the Jews are capable of making such an impressive, beautiful monument, why are the Catholics not able to do the same? What's wrong with the Catholics? Sorry to be judgmental, but I just don't see the same effort from the Catholics that I see from the Jews.

Bratwurst Boy, I have to keep running off because I have children and a house to take care of. They're in school now, so I have the next 5 hours to be online. Can't be online again until tomorrow at the same time.

Catholics or Poles or everybody else non-Jew just isn't in the same still threatened position as Israel...they say...so rising and keeping up the awareness about the jewish holocaust is a means to secure the future of the jewish homeland.

No Pole nor other victim of WWII shares the same position...some say..

guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/belief/2010/jan/14/dissenting-new-antisemism-film

stand at Babi Yar in Kiev, where tens of thousands of Jews were massacred in 1941, and one woman says: "The worst thing standing here is that it could happen again today." The students go to Auschwitz and believe the Israeli secret serviceman who tells them they're in "hostile country"

The ADL works very closely with the Israeli government in spreading the notion that the "new antisemitism" - extreme and unfair hostility to Israel - is the principal danger today.....
