How come Poles like Russians but not Germans?

McDouche  6 | 282

I don't think it's a question of forgiveness. The Poles do remember what Russia used to be. But Poles and Russians share Slavic roots and culture.

And some Poles also share Germanic roots...

Anyway, from my experience, many Poles don't have a problem with Germans. In fact, the marriage rate between Polish women and German men is very high. It's also growing among Polish men and German women.

Also, the Poles who do hate Germans also usually hate Russians, sometimes even more because of things like the Katyn massacre.

And Russian women are much prettier than German ones

That's a lovely unnecessary douchebaggery post that doesn't contribute to the topic. Care to enlighten us more with your ignorance pawian?

No, we haven`t. We have only heard a few silly jokes. E,.g., how do you know that you have just crossed the Polish German border into Germany? Cows look better than women.

Is pawian really going to keep getting away with sexist posts?

You have a funny tendency of saying "western europeans"

get some elementary information about the subject

I have lived in Germany and some other European countries for a few years, and the old thinking of "west = capitalist countries" and "east = communist countries" was (and still is) in the heads of many people over there. So if you're talking about Poland, most folks in the original NATO nations automatically associate her with the former Warsaw Pact. You have to wait at least another 50 years before that is overcome. Despite, I've never seen or heard anything derogatory about Poles in Germany (or the USA); only occasional banter. All these sweeping generalizations that Germans "hate" Poles and vice versa are a relic of a long gone past and IMO simply not true anymore. Most people have moved on.

Mc Duce, it is perfectly related to the topic. Read the title of this thread and my post again, but without this lovely unnecessary emotional agitation as before, and I am sure you will see the proper logical relation.

Care to enlighten us more

Just stay tuned, my threads/posts are for everybody, not only for those gifted ones.

Russians have German roots even more...

Today, there are approximately 600,000 ethnic Germans in Russia (Russian Census (2002)), a number that increases to 1.5 million when including people of partly German ancestry.

I suppose you should go back to sources and look up the definition of sexist. Then come back and tell us what you found. :):)

I believe you should.

You're objectifying women.

hahaha. Objectifying by saying they are pretty (or prettier) ? Hey, this political correctness of yours is really crazy.

PS. I live in Poland, not PC obsessed US. :):):) We are still a normal country.

You are objectifying women. Saying that cows are prettier than women is objectifying.

And I believe most will agree the US is more kind towards non-white people, gays and Jews. :-\

What you call "PC obsession" is just something called equality. Obviously Poland needs work in that department since you can't even understand that you're objectifying women.

You forgot to add that US is less kind to white people. So when a white and black guys apply for the same position, the result is obvious. Nobody in US wants to be sued for racism, do they???? :):):)

What you call "PC obsession" is just something called equality.

hahaha Look above.

Saying that cows are prettier than women is objectifying.

Aah, you mean that joke? But I wrote it is silly. I mentioned it on order to critisize it!!! Don`t you understand it??? :):):)

I moved this discussion here before it is moved to bin by mods.

2 reasons according to the nearest Pole I just asked:
1) Russians are less successful financially so it's easier to like them.
2) Something very similar to racism.

Thank you for every answer! Most of this is very informative and insightful to me.:)

On a side note, because someone mentioned it: I don't think you forgive someone who is closer to you easier (speaking about forgiving Russians easier because of shared slavic roots). To me it is the contrast. If a stranger and my own people do me wrong, I would be more offended of my people doing it. But that's just my two cents.

I also agree, Europe should probably and finally start to stick together as one big community instead of holding rants forever because of the past, but that's not going to happen any soon.

I noticed that you also have a talent for digressing from the topic.

All I wanted to say is that there is so many Poles in Germany that's why most Germans can tell the sound of Polish from Russian just like most Poles can tell appart German from Dutch.

Russians have German roots even more...

Rotfl! is this guy ever going to stop entertaining us? xDDD

Definitely not per capita.

Just looking at the physical appearances of Poles and Russians shows that Poles clearly are more Germanic than Russians.

Do you mean ethnical Russians or Russian citizens? Interesting. Could you post here pics of few ethnical Poles and ethnical
Russians as example, to show what you mean?
Here is two last Polish presidents pic1, pic2 and two last Russian presidents pic3, pic4.
Who of them look more Slavic or Germanic? Could you describe what is typical Germanic and Slavic looks are?
I would appreciate.

The Netherlands is the most Germanic nation of them all according to genetic studies. Neither Poles nor Russians look like them but if you had to pick, most people would say the Dutch look more like Poles than Russians.

Using famous people for comparison is not a great way to determine what country has more Germanic looks. However, I will say Tusk looks more Germanic than Putin while Kaczynski looks very Slavic.

We have to look at genetic studies though. R1b is the haplogroup associated with Germanic people. Poland has a 30% frequency of R1b while Russia only has a 5 to 6% frequency of it...

In their late 30s/40s they turn into fat babushkas, and Western women begin to look *much* better.

Possible, but Russian babushkas are funnier than their German counterparts because

Russians definitely have a better sense of humour.

and are more artistic oriented.

Because his grandpa was in Wehrmacht??? :):):)

You need to do a little research again, darling. :):):)

Poland has a 30% frequency of R1b

Could you give reference of it? I'm a bit interested in European genetics and bet that Poles hardly have R1b more then 10-15%. Otherwise it could be exaggerated and requires proves. The most Germanic haplogroup is usally claimed to be I1a. R1b is more Celtic and general-European.

I didn't remark that much visible Germanic influence in Poles. More Slavic.

What's your point? Many Poles have a German ancestor hence one of the reasons why Poles are more Germanic than Russians.

There are many different sources that show Poland has an R1a frequency between 16 and 30%. Most sites I've seen claim Russia is only 2 to 6% R1a.

Here is one site showing 16.5%. realhistoryww.com/world_history/ancient/Misc/Data/European_DNA_ta ble.htm

Here's one claiming 22.7%. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haplogroup_R1b_%28Y-DNA%29

Another claiming 30% of Poles have R1b and I1 haplogroups. khazaria.com/genetics/poles.html

No, I meant you got that Tusk wrong.

How did I get him wrong? He does look more Germanic than Putin? He is still a Pole, no?

The most Germanic haplogroup is usally claimed to be I1a. R1b is more Celtic and general-European.

General European? No, it is far more common in western Europe than in eastern Europe.

Donald Tusk belongs to the Kashubian minority in Poland.

There are many different sources that show Poland has an R1a frequency between 16 and 30%. Most sites I've seen claim Russia is only 2 to 6% R1a.

The link N1 gives R1b frequency for Poles 16.5 and for Russians at 6. But I guess that under Russians they mean anyone who live in Russia and not ethnical Russians only.

The link N2 gives some R1b subclads and one such subclad is 23% for Russian Bashkirs and 22% for Poles. Proves quite a little. And it is based on 110 Polish samples only.

The link N3 indeed claim Poles have 30% of I1 + R1b. But they failed to mention that I1 falls into two main subclades I1a and I1b. Only I1a of them is typically Germanic. I1b is rather paleo-Balkan in origin. Similar to Russians Poles have more I1b than 1Ia. According to this haplogroup map Poles have just a bit more I1a than Russians and quite a bit more R1b. But again those estimations could be rather for everyone who lives in Russia rather than ethnical Russians.

But we know he's also of German descent. That's a fact!

Exactly. Get over it Vlad. It's only natural considering Poles had more contact with Germans and other Germanic people.

Exactly. Get over it Vlad. It's only natural considering Poles had more contact with Germans and other Germanic people.

I wouldn't care if this is true, but still there is no evidence. The main Germanic marker is I1a and I1c (I2b) haplogroups. Northern Germans and Swedes have more of it than R1b. According to link I provided Poles have close to zero I1c (I2b) (typical Saxon marker) and only slightly more I1a than Russia citizens. And hardly more at all than ethnical Russians. R1b is not necessarily Germanic. It is present in large amounts in Romanians (even more than Poles), Turkish, Albanians, Hungarians, Bulgarians and Portuguese. I agree to permit that some part of it that is present in Poles was borrowed from Celts. But even those estimations for Poles could be exaggerated because Czech who experienced even more extensive Germanisation policies have R1b and I1a hardly more than Poles, what is strange. So up to now I suggest there is no proves, but there is certain tendency to falsification.
