Having trouble with finding roots of Kubis family from Poland; Cyrankowski

Hello,
My grandfather Mikal Bernard Kubis emigrated from Poland with his family around 1917. His fathers name was Michal and his mother Katarzyna.
The place of origin listed is Galacia/Poland. Can anyone say where this might be? Ancestry.com is no help at all. I have the records of them coming on the Krownprinze Wilhelm ship and thats pretty much it.

How would I go about finding their roots in Poland? please send any ideas to frierk71@gmail.-The family settled in Maspeth, Queens NY and married into Cyrankowskis

I have no idea if this has been answered as u requested an answer by email.
However, Galacia was south-east Poland - north-west Ukraine.
The map of Poland was rather different before 1918.
Check: Ship's Records for next of kin .... this might give u an address in Poland.
