The women are short.
Polish person's average height?
Hmm, not that short overall. Over 160cms on average.
Over 160cms
Lol. That's short.
I'm a little over 5'6 which is about 174cm and that's the average in the US, so 160cm is 5'2 is considered a shortie.
I'm a little over 5'6
We're the same height. When I wear high-heels I look like an Amazon woman!
5'9" full blooded polish female.
When I wear high heels I look like a runway model. All family members, cousins include, my height or taller btw.
Not short.

Japanese are short. All over :)
Average height for polish women is 167-168 cm.Average height for US women is 163 cm.You have to realize that with so many Latinos etc in the US it is normal that Europe leads in height.
Tallest Germanics:Dutch(average man 184 cm,average woman 172 cm),Swedish(average man 182 cm,average woman 170 cm).
Tallest Slavs:Serbs,Croats(average man 182 cm,average woman 169 cm),Czechs(average man 181 cm,average woman 168 cm),Poles(average man 180 cm,average woman 167-168 cm).
Ukrainians are shorter Slavs than Poles,Belarus even shorter and Russians are even shorter than Belarus(apart from some regions).

There is another part of the Polish body that averages, say, 30cm...This is why you have some problems of jealousy with some male inhabitants of the UK...
haha i'm a short ass (although due to my non-Polish side of the family too), although my dziadek was very big my babcia was tiny

Here is my little contribution - when I was younger I use to attend Polish langauge mass in Australia. I'm about six feet tall and was born in this country. To be honest I towered over most of the people there, but the vast majority had been born prior to the second world war. However I have noticed the later generations have been markedly taller, or at least here they have (including one almost platinum blonde Polish guy I met from Poznan that was about seven feet tall). Something clearly happened, I really wonder if nutrition has played a part and whether the Germanic populations quoted simply traditionally had an advantage when it came to it. Certainly the Dutch that I have met (and there is a very sizeable community of them here) seem no taller than recent generations of Poles. Again measurements of those born over the last 20 to 30 years would be interesting.
I think we covered the subject.163 cm average female in US,167 cm average female in Poland.

Most Polish guys I have known are over 1,78.
Most Polish girls are over 1.65. My best Polish friend is 1,78...damn, she is a godess.

Poles have the same average height with Germans.(there are regional differences places in Poland with very tall people and some with shorter and the same in Germany). For example Poles in Poznan are taller than Germans in Berlin but Poles in Wroclaw are shorter than Germans in Hamburg.
In America, most guys tend to be about 5'9" on average. I myself am about 5'10". However, when I walk around Polish-American communities such as New Britain, CT and Greenpoint; the male population seems significantly taller to the point that I feel somewhat short.
The Polish people in my family have varying heights. My grandfather is 6'2" and his brother was 6'5".

I found the opposite. I'm 5'11" and taller than most people I meet here in Warsaw.

Auxology is an interesting subject. I, myself am 10 feet tall and people frequently refer to me. For instance, I often hear, "I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot Pole."
Im not sure, one of the Polish guys I work with is over 6ft, whereas another is only 5ft 4 (bless him, he is tiny.)
The other two are about 5ft 8, so I imagined it would be like any country, a broad variation in height. British people certainly vary greatly.

Interesting, I've met quite a few Cherokee and Navajo and they all seem to be pretty short, especially women. Some are quite large though... Not height-wise though. ;). Just kidding...
Huh? What is America to you? I've lived in 9 States so far (military), currently Hawai'i and i'd say ~6' is the norm. The 5'10 and less are usually Hispanics... Of course there are exceptions but 5'9 is definitelly not the average...

Average polish woman is about 167 cm tall.Average polish guy is 181 cm.
I m 159 cm. I think average for women is around 165 cm, there are women who are much taller but there are significant amount of women who are smallish.

Yes,most famous basketball players in SU came from Lithuania.Sabonis,Marculionis among them. For sure the tallest people in Europe are the dinaric Serbs, then come Dutch, after them Swedish and next are Czechs.Immediately after Czechs are Croats,Serbs and Poles,so Poles are among the tallest nations in the old Continent.
My estimations for women height are
1.For Dutch 60% of women over 170 cm
2.For Swedish 50% of women over 170 cm
3.For Czechs 40% of women over 170 cm
4.For Serbs 35% of women over 170 cm
5.For Poles 30% of women are over 170 cm
6.For Ukrainians 20% of women over 170 cm
7.For Russians,Belarus 15% of women are over 170 cm

My estimate for you:
1. You're 50% correct
2. You're 50% incorrect
1. For Dutch 60% of women over 170 cm
The average height for Dutch women would be 170,2 cm (5 feet and 7 inches.) between the ages of 25 to 34. (Fully grown adults.) I'm 176 cm, but I see many Dutch girls who are about the same height, or slightly taller than me. (With heels on most of them will be taller though!) So if I had to guess I'd say that 60% could come close to the truth.

Don't be ridiculous buddy. 6' is way too tall to be the norm in America. I've been in plenty of states (mostly areas with very low Hispanic populations) and the average is definitely about 5'9". I think you have problems with estimates in which case I would advise that you take a class in mathematical measurements at your local community college.
FACT: Most Americans who claim to be 6 feet tall are actually shorter. Plenty of guys make the 6 ft claim in my state and they are definitely not that tall.

Hmm, not sure where the animosity came from? Have taken plenty of measurment and conversion classes in my life, don't think I need any more.
This thread is really about people's perceptions, no one here knows for sure. I'm 6' and my own perception is that I don't meet many people shorter than me. That's all, just my perception.
As far as the 6 foot "claim" - I don't claim anything, that's what my medical certificate shows and every six months I get weighed, measured and tested whether I want or not. Most of the time it's a different doctor yet each time the number stays the same.
Never thought my reply would cause someone to get argumentative, I was surprised to hear about the 5'9" estimate, that's all.

Your ignorant claim that 5'9" is definitely not the average for Americans probably had something to do with it. I apologize if I sounded a bit hateful.
What sort of method do they use to measure you? Not all methods are very accurate. For example, at my doctor's office they measure me at 71 inches (5ft11) and I am not that tall. If they don't use something to put on top of your head and extend it to the wall or whatever it is in your case then I wouldn't take it too seriously. Also, those weight machines are a little iffy too because they have a significant mechanical incline in most cases that doesn't match up with the measurement accurately.
Also, most medical studies have concluded that average height is at 5'9" with a few exceptional studies that claim it to be at 5'10".
If you really are a legitimate 6 ft barefooted and most of the guys in your area really are as tall as you (disregarding the possibility of shoe lifts) then your area is above average to the rest of the US. I live in northeastern USA and the men around here (especially in the cities) are supposed to be taller than other Americans. And again, from what I've observed, the men usually average at 5'9"...give or take a half inch. If average was as tall as 6 ft then I would feel somewhat short but I don't. I'm 5'10 barefooted in the morning at most and I'd say about 75% of all guys here are my height or shorter.
