Paprocki: I am trying to figure out my Polish roots.

My g-grandfather was Henry Walter Parke and I am trying to figure out my Polish roots. I finally came across a website that had information on my genealogy. I am confused about what it says in regard to the fact that Katherine remarried to "Roman" (wtf) and had seven children. Does that look like it means that I am not actually related to Wladyslaw Paprocki?

Also, do last names really mean anything in regards to ancestry? I've heard that Polish people changed their names around quite a lot for some reason.

What's wrong with Roman? It's a normal polish name and surname appearing in Poland since XIII century. Polish people changed surname mainly to foreigners having problems with pronunciation, and sometimes office workers made typos while writing them down...

Katherine had seven children with Wladyslaw Paprocki not with Roman.. which is pretty obvious because there's a date of the second marriage.

Stanislaw Paprocki (born 11 October 1899). Shot with 197 other Poles on 17 September 1940 in the Palmiry forest after detention in the Pawiak. I have no info as to charge, date of arrest etc. RIP Stanislaw.

My maiden name is Paprocki. I have lots of relatives in Platte County, Nebraska, lots of Paprockis there. My ancestors came from Tarnow, Poland.

There were Paprocki families in Boulder County, Colorado as well. The 1900 census has a John and Anna Paprocki. They might have been related to my family through marriage.
