Leon Novak - Searching for my Polish granddad!

Hello everyone,

I am German and I found out that I have a polish granddad. His name is Leon Novak, born on: 8.4.1934 near Krakau. I now know that he served the military in November 1956 in schivelbein now swidwin. As I don't speak polish its very hard for me to search him online.

I am going to Poland by the end of August: Does anyone have an idea or tip for me? I might go to the community in swidwin and ask there if they speak English.

Thank you for any ideas,
wilde hilde

Novak is the Czech and Slovak spelling -- in Polish it is Nowak. Das bedeutet Neumann.

Hello, may I ask a couple of questions? That way, ppl might be able help better. One, do you where near Krakow, or no? Two, any known religion? Is he still not alive, if not I'm sorry. Also, would know where/when he died? Which military did he serve? Do you know if he married, had kids, or any sibling or other relative names?

Also, to clarify for all, are you writing the date as normal European order, meaning April 8th (I presume yes but others trying to help might not be sure, and in genealogy one must never presume).

Hi Polonius3, thank you for the info! I surely didn't know that. Will make sure to have the name written correctly in any documents.

Hi polishmama

thank you for your feedback. No I don't know where exaxtly in Krakow he was born.
I will ask my grandma if she knows which military service it was and I will get back to you. I know that he has married another woman but I don't whom. The date assumption is correctly he was born on April 8th, 1934. He was the youngest kid of a familiy with 10 children.

I have found out that the ministry of interior in Warsaw gives out the addresses against a small fee, so this what I am trying. I am more than happy for hints. Thank you.

I think that's a good bet to do that. Also, try to find out any family member names, siblings, anyone. Do you know anything else at all? Even the tiniest detail can make a big difference. A place, a town, name, family tradition. I'm sorry to ask again, but do you know whether he passed away or not?
