How common GMO Food in Poland is?

Hi....how common is genetically modified food in Poland? It's supposed to be bad stuff. I just read that Poland is not complying with the agreed upon ban from the EU.

What's wrong with Poland?! Should people be worried?

It's all genetically modified food since we've been selecting and growing the stuff ourselves.


I doubt that the E.U. could ban such a thing.


People should definitely worry, if there are no points being made, no arguments being put forward and really no logic, then people really should worry, a lot.

My major guff with GM foods are corrupt, monopolising, and immoral companies like monsanto.
GM foods were really meant to end world hunger, instead it just seems to be going towards an Orwellian nightmare.

almost all food you and I eat is a food modified genetically. remember- wheat, rye, cattle etc all of them are modified, they are all different than their ancestors.

I learned that Monsanto can't do business in Germany, France, Austria, among others.

Yeah it is, true that humans have selectively bred plants and animals for ever but GMO as understood today is something else altogether.

It’s a con by agri/chemical business to sell more product nothing more.

Making something resistant to your herbicide or pesticide can only mean you want to sell more product. The chances of cross contamination are huge. Maiz in Europe is one that cannot cross with native species. As for other plants, if you opt to not want to eat GMO you will have no choice as once it’s out there it cannot be put back.

The long and short is that GMO = More chemicals.

I have a feeling the Americans are to blame for this this. They're big proponents of GMO crops.

This is all up to the company that produces it and the governments that allow it but not directly because of the GMO itself.

I keep telling you but you rather listen to pawian and such......... phew!

gmo is nothing but poison. it starts with the seeds that grow the grains that get fed to animals that we eat. we get a double dose from grains, meats and dairy.

it is toxic. it is only used to increase profits- nothing more. we can't have it.

What is the difference between GMO and all the different cross breeding of plant varieties that has been going on for many years before the term GMO came to the fore? I am just asking as not sure.

We are told this is the 'information society', but in many cases an apter term might be 'information buzz society'. The GMO issue is a good example. A farmer was shown on Poilish TV holding an ear of maize and showing where a pest (a certain species of caterpillar) had left a chew mark. According to him, eating such contaminated maize can even cause cancer, but the pest cannot thrive in GMO crops. At the same time celebrities Doda and Edyta Herbuś took part in yesty's Warsaw demo saying they would never feed GMO-contaminated food to their families. Today a prof. Golik (if I recall the name correctly) authoritatively stated that years of research had not produced a shred of evidence that GMO is harmful to people's health of the environment.

The point is the average person cannot be as botanist, entymologist, parasitologist, etc., so whom should he believe? This applies to many controversies, not only in the GMO, food and health fields.

Those churning out information and/or disinforamtion are mostly lobbyists, advertisers, PR experts, political agitators and others promoting some product or agenda. Unfortunately many media people are also on somebody's payroll.

exactly, Polonius, so I would rather be cautious. but when there is mass amounts of money to be made----it is not usually beneficial to anybody but those making the money.

making crops grow faster doesn't make sense. it is gluttony at its worst. these crops are not used to help feed third world countries - these crops and all the run off from them are helping the Western world get fatter and sicker than ever.

and it has hit Poland at an alarming rate. Yesterday I was in a shopping centre in Warsaw and I was shocked at all the obese people in line at the Burger KIng- this didn't exist 5 years ago. and it is sad.
