yes, I agree. 8% is bad for the taste. Then, why don`t you try 9 or 10%? They work wonders for the taste, believe me!

my gripe against Polish beers is that they lack depth.
they are shallow, IMHO, as compared to say Slovakian beers (Złoty Bażant) and Czech beers (any of their delicious pilsners).

the Belgians seem to do just fine with 8%-9% beer.....

I was told the formula for Zywiec changed for the negative within the past 5 years. Poland actually offers more spin off flavors "Porter, Palone, Mocne" etc than other Central European countries but it's still a Pilsner centered nation

According to some brewers,Tyskie isn't brewed long enough to actually be beer. I've been told flavouring is added to compensate.
It used to be pretty good circa 2002 but times have changed.

Tyskie gave me a splitting headache the couple of times I tried it.

Ive been drinking Lech for a few years now, thats always my first choice.


Ive had that as well, especially when you drink about three quite fast.

there is none. I get headaches after drinking most of Polish beers.

I would recomend trying small breveries. There is growing market of such beers and they usually are quite good.

Where you are the best beer on tap is going to be Perla (it's brewed in Lublin and found in a lot of pubs there). However, you should keep an eye out for beer from the Jagiello brewery in Chelm. I've never had their stuff on tap but it's pretty damn good in bottles.


Frankly the market is growing so fast that it's difficult to keep up. Not that I'm complaining: the quality is going up even faster. As an example, this time last year Rowing Jack was in my mind the best beer in Poland; now it isn't even in the top five !

the problem with Polish beer is its luck of consitency. When I find the one I like it changes the taste. In other countries the breweries have been developing the recipes for years. Here in Poland it is not the case and the beer making tradition is a very short one, so you can "have a nice day" me all you want, but that is the reality. I know that small breweries try to portray it otherwise, but I am not fooled by it. They have to compete with large beer companies.

Sure there is Perla, which Harry has been talking about for a while- I tried it and wasn't taken at all, so beer, as many other edible or drinkable things are a matter of TASTE.

I agree though tyskie from Tychy and from its other factory are quite different, it's to do with the difference in the water at both sources.

Not really much you can do about the different water types in two different parts of the country.
Unless you wanna close one factory and just leave production in Tychy. I doubt the workers' unions would be pleased though lol

But in this pub in Krakow, you can have a lot of good tasty refreshing Polish beer.

Skrill was voted the best beer in Poland, for a lager style I would also give a vote to Perla.

Why are you guys naming the crappiest, big-name beers in Poland? For BEST Polish beer? Of course it's a silly question to begin with as it's all up to opinion and someone could prefer horse-p***, but Tyskie, Okocim, these are swill beers. Someone mentioned microbrews which are always the way to go, the world over. Ciechan is always good, Namyslow as well. I've noticed the changing tastes as well, I attribute it to cutting quality in order to make more money, Zywiec used to be o.k. but has become utter ***** in the past years.

My favorite Polish beer used to be Tyskie. This year I tried Kasztelan unpasteurized. Very good:

It's a matter of taste, my favourite beer is Perła Niepasteryzowana (unpasteurized) and Lech. And I made this mistake and tried Tatra, that was the worst thing I've ever had in my mouth...

Given where you are, you should make haste to Grodzka 15: it's the finest microbrewery in Poland (and that statement is based on fairly extensive research). Also, keep an eye out for Lubelski pils (330ml bottles and only sold in your region) and Zwierzyniec (also brewed by Perla). Oh, and pretty much anything by the Jagiello brewery in Chelm.

Right, I totally forgot about Jagiello.
Is it hard to buy Lubelski pils? I've never seen it before.
