Where can I buy Fresh Trout (Pstrąg) in or around Kraków?

I recently visited Ojców - the trout farm there brought back memories of eating fresh trout when I was a boy in America, so I have a yearning for the fish now. Can anyone suggest where I can buy fresh trout in or around Kraków? If not, perhaps a restaurant that offers tasty trout dishes? Thanks!

Both the Nowy & Stary Kleparz markets have stands selling fresh fish, and there's a fish shop called Ryby with the most amazing signage on ul. Dluga, on the west side of the street near the junction with Basztowa.

You can buy fresh trout in every large hypermarket - Carrefour, Auchan, Kaufland etc. .

I highly doubt it. Trout, yes. Fresh trout, probably not. Look at the gills. If they are bright screaming rosy more pink than red, they are fresh. If the color is duller or darker, it's past its prime. If the gills have been cut out, it is definitely past its prime. Dollars to doughnuts, those you see in the hypermarkets have had their gills cut out.

Trout starts deteriorating very quickly once it is killed. It doesn't retain its freshness even one day even if properly refrigerated. And while fresh trout is sublime, trout that isn't perfectly fresh is blah at best, and disgusting at worst.

A good rule to follow is never buy a trout you have not personally seen alive and kicking. Just like lobsters. And be prepared to pay the price. And, most of all, ice it well immediately and cook it as soon as humanly possible, within a few hours at most.

Fresh normally means not frozen. The OP didn`t mention he expected "super duper fresh trout straight from the pond". :):) He clearly wrote: in or around Krakow.

No, they don`t have time to play such games with fish. :):) When it is past its date, they simply throw it out or the supplier takes it. :):)

Hmm, I thought it applies to all fish, not only trout. :):)

You advise to use super fresh fish rule but still you seem to talk about farm trout. That is a major misundestanding. If you want real quality trout, catch it yourself instead of buying farm trash.

I am a free man and I do what I like. Any fekkkking problem with that? :):)

HA!
