Where to go for the best steak in Warsaw?

Poles rarely eat steak, the beef you buy in supermarkets is really, really tough. They certainly won't eat yak either.

Maybe when you were here that was true; but these days even Lidl and Biedronka sell 21-day aged steaks that are excellent. It's unfortunate that some people only go to Biedronka to bulk buy cans of 1.49zl rotgut "VIP" lager.

Agree. Personally I much prefer the tough cuts of beef braised or cooked over minimal heat for a few hours, rather than a steak. Beef cooked in it's own juices with no added stock is delicious or you can simmer it in a bottle of cheap red wine for a really delicious rich sauce. Oxtail soup is another favourite dish of mine. Any beef dish cooked on the bone will be full of flavour. The one thing I miss beef wise in Poland is a traditional roast, as the animal seems to be butchered differently and you can't get a proper roasting joint.

Very hard to get tails in Poland. Occasionally a distant in-law who works in a butcher's gets one for me, which I put it in my slow cooker for several hours. Poles think I'm nuts to eat a cow's tail, but oxtail stew is delicious. Perfect rib-sticking winter food.

Lidl have roasting beef from time to time, but blink and you'll miss it. Their Irish steaks are pretty good, too.

I never recommend the steak to american visitors, all a bit different here, might be feed type corn etc, use of steroids? (not sure) time left to hang new york striploin etc.

In my opinion steaks in europe are not as good as in the us.

maybe with the exception of some argentine steak house and those who import beef from abroad.

Have you smelt it? One sniff will tell you all you need to know about it.

Absolutely excellent steak can be found in Warsaw. Perfectly acceptable steak can be found in any Lidl or Biedronka. Or one can have very good steak delivered to one's door by a number of companies. I do wish you'd stop judging Poland based on solely your frankly limited experiences of it.

It's not high quality, but it's perfectly acceptable for a mid-week home-cooked steak, especially at that price point.

Even if one travels more, they may still do their shopping in the shops of the kind of Biedronka or Lidl.

Lets get the IPA and steak thing sorted, no I have not seen IPA on the shelves where i live, i did see and ad for lidl british week but when i got there there wasn't any.

And as to steak I did say i had some good steak in Warsaw.

In answer I knew both my parents, the came from a place called Brodzy Pod Kamien they were both polish so were their fathers and mothers.

You said that you can't buy IPA here, a statement which is what is technically referred to as 'utter bollocks'. There is not an address in Poland (other than perhaps prison cells) which cannot buy excellent IPA. Kindly refrain from spouting such ignorance about Poland.

So why not try acting like it?

Buddy you are not nuts as it is a delicacy in my book.
It's a bit greasy, however like you stated, in a slow cooker it cooks that fat out.
You now have a very flavorful meat in a stew after you skim the grease of the top.
You can make a lot of stew with a small amount of ox/cow tail.
Pour the stew over some rice and you can feed a lot of kids.
Something that sticks to your ribs on a cold day.
Oxtail in the U.S.A. cost about $9 per pound which is not cheap for something that is half bone.
Very popular in Jamaica too along with cow hoofs.
The meat in cows feet (half the price of tail) is very sweet also.
We call these kinds of meals "poor people's food". Yummy !
So we are back to leasing a 1000 acres of government land from Poland and raising prime beef.
So Harry, how much per pound does a nice Delmonico steak cost in a butcher shop in Poland ?
Do Poles buy say a quarter beef to put in their freezer from a farmer like we do here in the U.S. ?

We have a new contender - the Fiorentina steak in San Lorenzo (the new branch on zurawia). It's 80 zloty but you don't need any starter or desert ! Best I have had for a long time.
