Where to go for the best steak in Warsaw?

OK, so Polish christmas food was nice but I really fancy a decent steak and open to suggestions on where is best place. I mean a more formal place - bearnaise, mash, spinach, decent glass of red wine.

I have tried the Intercontinental which was much hyped - most of the meal was great but steak was a disappointment !
Also tried Butcher and Wine and liked the meat but think the tables are a bit close together and its a bit too full of suits.

Hard Rock, Champions etc all OK but looking for somewhere less noisy !

Any other gems I dont know about ?

Which steak did you have there? I had the Iowa Longhorn and was not impressed: it was decent but nothing more. But my friend's Charolais was superb.

The steak at 99 was pretty good but again the tables are very close together and it's fairly corporate.

My tip would be Na Zielnej. It's where KOM used to be (the PAST building) and where I had two of my best three meals of 2011. In November it was the concierges of Warsaw's top hotels voted it most impressive restaurant in Warsaw. The steak comes from the same cows that Butchery & Wine have.

And I have never had a steak at Sense which was less than good.

Adler on ul. Mokotowska. I have always had great steak there. They are not specialist in steak but the one they have is pretty good. Believe it or not the London Steak house was also good. We went in there once on an impulse and the food was not bad.

but I think Adler is probably the best I have had.

An excellent place. Deserves to have queues outside but doesn't. Das Elefant in pl. Bankowy (and the other one next to it too) was good but is now shut. U Szweika is disappointing - they tend to overcook them. I don't normally like shopping malls, but Courtepaille in Arkadia does a good steak. Lamb too.

I used to write for a paper which held staff meetings in the London steak house (barter deal for an advert) every fortnight. Over three years I must have had 50 steaks there. Never had a bad one. But equally, never had an excellent one. And everything other than the steak is terrible!

you are right- it wasn't bad- but not the best I have had.

I forgot to mention about a shop on Pulawska- Befsztek. It is an organic butcher and their meat is amazing. They have a website and they deliver- you can also buy a bottle of wine from Mielzynski......but of course, this is only if you would rather make a meal at home.

I think that also one's expectations come into play there (i.e. looking at the place (and the staff) one is expecting it to be utterly terrible).

OK will give zielna a whirl and report back.

I had the charolais in Intercontinental - maybe overcooked as I asked for it medium but it seemed a bit tasteless.

beef is notoriously not good in Poland. The only place I have ever had a good steak is Adler or the London- and of course our grill at home with meat from Befsztek. I never order it anymore because I have been disappointed so many times.

I will also try Adler again but its not really what I'm after as its quite a noisy place and more for beer than for wine. Plus its round shape always made me feel a bit sick !

Weird. My friend's was medium rare and absolutely knocked spots off the stuff they have at B&W.

When it is good, it can be very very good. It's certainly a lot better than it was ten years ago!

OK will give zielna a whirl and report back.

If they still have the mushroom latte (unlikely, given the season) it is unmissable.

So I tried Downtown again and this time much better - very tasty strip steak (one of the cheaper items on the menu but still 60 zloty). Zielna was fully booked so will try it next time.

Try the beef from the "Beskidzki Wypas" the butcher at Polna street. They have Red Angus, Hereford and Salers from the only herd in POland. The meet is both aged and cut proper.

If you really want to enjoy a good steak, make 25 km south of Warsaw to Podkowa Leśna. There some crazy guys open an argentine grill with wine shop inside a warehouse. They have probably the best steaks in Poland and for sure the best selection of new world wines. Worth a weekend. the place is called Podkowa Wine Depot Winiarnia & Argentyński Grill, and the good thing is that while you wait for your order, you can go to the wine bar and try wines with the owner and choose the one you want for your meal! I strongly recommend it

I was in this restaurant (Podkowa Wine Depot) yesterday (Sunday).
I do NOT recommend it at all.
I traveled from Warsaw on purpose to have a proper steak.
I asked for a steak, and they gave me 4 slices of something similar to rosbeef meat with a salad.
I felt like a had a different treatment since I was the only foreigner in there (that I noticed).
I saw some people having a proper steak but when I asked for one...that was what I got.
Huge disappointment.

Reminds me of the recent burger fashion in Warsaw. The prices some venues charge for what is basically a burger with French fries and some veggies. Mind boggling. I refuse to go along with such fashions. First it was the sushi invasion, then the steak attack. Now the burgers. The culinary snobs always go for it :). And you have to been seen there by the right people, just to impress. I do not care a fig for some charolais in the intercontinental. We go since ages to a local place which is not fashionable - thanks God no expats there - serves decent and very unfashionable food for a local price. And enjoy.

Some of those places are very very good. I've been to Burger Kitchen (on Widok) a couple of times in the last couple of weeks. Last time I was there I had the house burger with two patties and fries and an Oreo shake. The bill was 52zl. That's double what one would pay at Burger King or McDonalds. So was the meal overpriced? No; that food was many times better than what one would get at Burger King or McDonalds. I'd certainly prefer to go to Burger Kitchen once than to go to Burger King or McDonalds twice.

I do not care a fig for some charolais in the intercontinental.

There isn't really much point in going there for that (unless somebody else is paying, which is why I was there).
befsztyk.pl/index.php has better meat at far better prices and steak is pretty simple to cook really.

I can't understand the people who refuse to go to places just because other foreigners might be there; that's as sensible as refusing to go somewhere because Poles go there!

Being American, finding a good steak in Warsaw is definitely a challenge. If you're looking for home delivery, as above, try steakclub.pl
The quality of the steak is some of the best I've had in Poland, plus cooking it yourself means getting medium/rare the way it's supposed to be (red warm center). If you're English they age them as.

Recently tried Casa Pablo as well. A bit steep on price, but some good quality steak.

I've not been but a friend of mine has: said it was by far and away the best steak he's ever had, although it was 450zl. It was one of the ones that the owner of the restaurant flies to London every week to buy.

Of course he is: the UK and Poland are both part of the EU.
I myself always bring back several packs of British bacon and sausages when I fly back from the UK.

And the restaurant owner goes to UK to bring steaks for his restaurant??? How many steaks does he carry? and atleast 2 to 4 hours of that steak in non referigerated bags??? or he just brings 5 pieces of steak?todays heat when its 86degrees the beef must be grilled during its transportation.

Steaks tend to be much better when the meat is far less fresh than most housewives would buy. Ideally part of the surface should have gone black.
