Maybe moving to Poland - Help and Advice

Hi folks, have read these forums for sometime now and have seen a number of topics which have been interesting but now looking for a bit of advice. My partner and I are looking to move to Poland over the next year probably, if my flat sells.

I have been working in UK financial services in a Marketing department for over 10 years (in the same company) where I am now a senior analyst in charge of a team of Investment Marketing Analysts. As we will probably end up in Lublin in the South East and therefore I understand jobs may be like gold dust, although Warsaw is also an option. Therefore I am going to hopefully sit an English teaching qualification next year which will hopefully open up other employment opportunities. Would online TEFL be enough or should I go for CELTA? Would it be better to do it in the UK or in Poland? If CELTA, would it be beneficial to do a basic online TEFL course first? I know the sort of salaries on offer for this work so understand it would be substantially lower than what I earn now, but money is not my motivation here. I have experience in training within my current role but obviously in a completely different subject.

I will also try and get a job in my current field but feel this may be a step to far due to my poor grasp of Polish but intend doing a evening course at the start of next year to hopefully improve and get a basic certificate. Are there any recruitment agencies in Poland I can consider to help with this, I am currently using UK Internationals ones at the moment as I already have contact with them.

Any advice would be warmly accepted,

Cheers in advance

Gordie

I'd recommend doing the CELTA to increase your chances. It will be seen as a change in direction, that you are prepared to invest in teaching. The man you wanna ask here is ukpolska as he mixed business and teaching for some time, maybe still does. He lives near or in Lublin. I'll let him say more specific things.

Are you sure you wanna give up your job, though? If I had a job like yours, I'd likely keep it but Poland can be an interesting new experience.

Seanus,

I know it seems strange but my partner wants to move back to Poland and in a lot of ways it really appeals to me. It breaks me to see her reaction when we leave Poland when we come back from holiday. Away from company politics, less stress and out of the rat race. Been thinking about it for about a year now, still positive about it, so fingers crossed. Just trying to look at the options and to see what I can do before we go.

As I say just trying to see what the options are at the moment, and the 7 holidays or so in Poland over the last 2 years make me think I could quite like it.

Cheers

Gordie

When you land a job, other things take care of themselves quite nicely. I'd advise against doing an online course. There's no substitute for real class time.

Ukpolska knows the scene in and around Lublin the best.

I agree, take CELTA.

It shows you are serious about teaching.

The online course can help but doesn't really guarantee you a job.

Don't waste your time with an online course. Get a CELTA. Many/most good schools won't hire you without one. It doesn't matter where you get. Just get it.
