Work Ethic of Polish Workers

Hey, I was wondering about the Polish work ethic and how it compares to the American work ethic. Americans live to work, the average job is not a 9-5 day. Everyone works overtime and tries to figure exactly what they can do to make more money. In Spain the people are much more laid back and work to live. They dont work overtime and split up their work day so they can go home and nap and eat lunch. I was just wondering how the Polish view working.

Bit of a generalisation - its not all like that. neither is the american view you set out.

The Poles that come to work here in Ireland are as varied a workforce as any. Alot of hardworkers, with the usual slackers and chancers. just like in any society.

The thing we notice here at least - is they and other migrants, work in any job that pays well for them that locals seem unwilling (by and large) to do. So for that, its a very good thing. Keeps the economies moving. Best still if they can repatriate that income to Poland (even in Ireland, we have Eastern european shops with eastern european produce therefore some of that money makes it home)

I think Poles are very hard workers too. At least those who work abroad. Many of them work two shifts for a low salary and don't complain too much.

Workers in Poland don't have such strong work ethics; they like to slack at work sometimes. But it changes for better and those who have good jobs work long hours to make sure their boss is satisfied.

From what I observed while in PL, it's similar to the US. I'm not sure about the OT though.

My niece in Poland just quit her banking job. She was coming home at 9-10 pm at night and was bringing work home for the weekend. All for a very measly salary of 1200 zloty.

I work at the bank and that's unthinkable. If we need to stay longer for any reason, we're paid a time and a half or we can take time off.

However, if you want to "make it", no matter where you live, or if you're are a new immigrant, you need to work a lot. It always pays off at the end, it worked for me.

i dont think soo ,yes, they are hard workers and good people but,, what i dont really like is that some people have more than one job and this is not very good.i know a few

1 are taking jobs from other people, ( have only one job and dont be selfish)
2 they dont have time for appreciate the life ( they re always working)
3 is better do one job well than two jobs poorly becouse you dont have the energy
so i dont think is good but i m going to have two jobs soon, ha! ha! ha! ha!

Ideally the basic work ethic of Poles is "**** it, good enough" but due to years of high unemployment and unfair bosses that screw over their workers, Poles have learned to suck it up and work their asses off.

from my experience in my workplace Poles are not taking jobs from other people but are, in fact filling vacancies that local people (who are apparently crying out for a job) are not interested in (for example - kitchen and domestic duties). As these are the lowest paid jobs in my workplace I would not be surprised if some of them felt they had to take on another job to earn enough money to live. I get a good wage and even I am considering taking on a bar job to suppliment what I already earn.


I agree with that to a certain degree. However, from what I understand from some Polish friends, they spend their days off better - like visiting places etc. Whereas I might be quite inclined to go shopping or cut the grass!

are you talking of the cold war. That was against russia. Poland was not a threat. The threat came from the russians who ruled you.
