short-term work in nyc

hi,
I would like to know if there's any possibility to find a short-term work in nyc, actually very short-term (about 1-13 days). I mean stomething like helping in motel, bar, shop etc. I've always dreamed about working as an extra. I've just done some internet research and i found a lot of agency, but it costs... Any other way to do that (work as an extra)?

I have very strange situation and i really need help. Any advices, please? Where should i look for it? On the internet or when i'll be in nyc (where?)? I'm in nyc from 1 to 14 sep.

wanted ads in the paper.. walkabout.. if you're polish, find the poles, they'll be more then glad to use you.

It might be hard, but not impossible. Jobs nowadays can be hard to come by on short notice.
