but at the present time america is not the preferred destination for poles looking to work abroad. uk, sweden, norway or even considering the current economic situation many are staying put in poland or even returning from abroad

Oh, come on; Poles are coming to America by the score. I live here. I see it all the time.. True, some leave. But the majority stay. America is a wonderful country. Like someone on here said.. Love it or leave it. We dont need anymore immigrants. But America is here for those who choose to stay

nowadays they say that poland will stop mandatory service and have a professional army in the future. I havent met anybody who actually served in the army

this fall army drafted its last recruiters. starting january 1, Poland will have a professional army. however, when my friend went to Poland earlier this year (he's 26 and has been living in US for some time now) he was detained by the police for 2 weeks for "running away from the army duty". at least that was the official reason for his arrest. i thought he was joking til he showed me his police papers. it was quite a story.

don't work that way here in the USA, not at all.. tell someone you're not ana american citizen and see how long they listen to you then..

are you even in the US to be claiming what you do? who the heck goes around stating what immigration status they are, if its a legal permanent resident, or a US citizen before they start talking, to see if someone will listen? maybe people are judging you on your poor accent and you feel the way you do.

I have no idea where you get your info on all these educated people that flocked to the US. Here in Chicago, 80% have at most a high school education, any one with a college degree is young and immigrated within the last 10 yrs. The only exception is those doctors & dentists... of which the population is quite small compared to how many Poles are here.

where i live almost all poles are highly educated.. very few are blue collar. almost the whole bunch came here to the states in the 70s, 80s and a few in the 90s.

maybe chicago is a hub for those that can't hack it anywhere else and need the polish community to make it here.

on the other comment you keep making: i have no accent and 99% of people never even guess i could be anything but an american but americans do not care what others think of them. they tend to discount any opinions that are made by non-americans. that is just the fact of things here. they may listen to be polite and but in the end your opions means ziltch to them. that is what i predominantly see here.

I think the US has plenty of immigrants to supply the bottom of the food chain. I agree to think we dont need any more for a while... maybe would help us get out of this recession quicker.

My honest answer is who would want to live in Poland?

My honest answer is who would want to live in Poland?

My wife for one. She misses her family.

But me, for love, I trade:
1. walking across the street without fearing for my life
- stemming from that, idiot drivers
2. a very comfortable living got from a very modest job
a. a 600 a month, a nice 1 br apt in a fantastic hood, plus on the metro line to NHL games
3. cheap gas, cheap clothes
4. awesome nature right within 30 miles of where I live
(can't be replaced with the Disneyland nature of the Tatras)
5. my adult Tues. and Thurs. night hockey league
6. cleaner air
7. people acknowledge your existence when you go shopping or walking
8. right to shoot guns (even though I don't shoot - I'd have to register my family heirlooms)

I trade for:
1. relative lack of econ. opportunity
2. sky-high prop. prices (an acre of beautiful Missouri Ozark land will buy you a pea-green living-room overlooking concrete slabs intermixed with mud that acts as a parking lot.) (that was low, i know)

3. people who can't look at you without appearing as if they might harm you
4. food out of the dark-ages (sorry pe'ps, plain as in poland as in pepper won't make that cabbage any tastier)
5. Decent beer (for which I say, German beer is better generally)
6. Good looking girls (what good are they to a married man?)
7. Looking the outcast if I don't wear my Sunday's best to Auchan
8. .....

I'm sure some Polish defender will say something about no culture, fat people, etc etc
I know where you're coming from, but it's actually an old, boring argument. I never dated a fat girl, and I have visited many museums (lol) and know a Van Gogh from a Monet.

I have lived for 1+ years in several different countries. In vacation time alone, I have spent 8 months in Poland. I could live without a lot of the amenities and the avg. b.s. people seem to cite, but one thing I can't, is a playful spirit in the culture. I got that in Austria, maybe cause of the outdoorsyieness of the people, and to a lesser, though still tolerable level in some other countries. Though they were all 1st world countries, I lived in some pretty big s--holes. But that was always offset by either, awesome food, beautiful paysage, swimmable ocean, nice nature, etc. I don't get many offsets in Poland.

Whoops, my wife is about to catch me on this post and I'm still trying to salvage the relationship. lol

Come on Obama, restore pride to US administration. No more fake confessions, pretexts, butchering evidence and wrongly labelling people.

Make America strong and respectable again.

How about making it so it keeps the f*uck out of people's backyards?? That's not such an implausible thought.

Change we need. I wonder what he had in mind, abolish the capatalist system? Seems to me that its just not working at the moment and I predict the whole system will come crashing down in the future if not this time.

I agree, Wahldo. The PNAC must be abolished. Neocon loonies!! America is the target of abuse due to its continued expansion in involvement internationally.

WB, rescue packages can come about. So much is butchered these days. Don't believe the spin they throw out. The problem is that the greedy have caused this.

Come on Wahldo another cheap shot, im well aware that Obamas Inauguration day is the 20th of January 2009. Im just wondering if he has any tricks up his sleeve to deal with the economic crisis.

I was pro Obama from the minute i knew he was running, and am looking forward to his presidency.

I second that, WB. There are chinks in his armour but he is a breath of fresh air. Have a look at the debates between himself and McCain.

I don't think Obama has the ultimate say in this financial crisis though. It's all about timing and the corporations are disclosing it in their own way.

Yes, you and I are and always have been for the man. He needs to lead from the top as long as he has public support I suppose he can get away with pretty much anything. Money and religion is the root of all evil we need to move on.

He's a man that will listen to the right people, high-ranking weapons inspectors being foremost on my mind.

I fear for his life though. He needs maximum security.

I for one hope that your expectations of Obama is right. He is not coming in with a clean record. Lets check into his political background.

He belonged to the Chicago political machine along with Rahn Emanuel, Rod Blagojewicz, Reverend Wright, Rezko,Ayers,ETC.
All Chicago crooks.
Now, is he involved? Who knows? When Blagojewicz subpoenas the Pres. Elect into court. We shall see.. I have the feeling that heads will roll.

I hope that for the sake of America that he comes out clean, and get America on the right track again. Time will tell.

That would be a sad day indeed. The man has some balls on him.

Weve all got skeletons in the closet. Thats more than likely simply overinflated bad press, Yankees love a scandal.

Then McCain would get in and wreak havoc. I fear his foreign policy agenda. Barrack actually has some knowledge of tact.

Yankees love a scandal.

I think that you might have some trouble convincing the investors that lost all of their life's savings in the Madhoff Ponzi scandal

Whats that got to do with anything? as far as i remember some silly investors paid money to con men and then started crying when they lost their funds. Its a greed fueld game whats the saying "a fool and his money are easily parted".

Saying that i was recently conned out of some doh but I could never have seen that one coming, i was a victim of the credit crunch. You win some you lose some.

I think that Jehtro is responding to your quote that Americans like scandals. Your response is stupid.. Like who enjoys a scandal?
You guys are so brainwashed with this Obama CULT thing, that you are blind to the truth.

And, what does anybody really know about this guy? What are his credentials? He was sponsored by a crooked political machine. The Chicago mob. He is surrounded by crooks. Maybe an investigation will bear some different identity. I hope not. For Americas sake.

Seanus, I am new in here, but I see you in almost every conversation. You seem to be a very intellegent person. You handle yourself very well.

But, I'll bet that you would hope to be as great as your dog thinks you are.
