Hey! I'm planning to move to LA from Chicago any tips?

1. Get a high paying job. The cost of housing is very expensive.
2. Make sure your home has air conditioning. It can get up to 112 in the summer, 90 in the winter.
3. Save up to buy a good security alarm system or get bars on your doors and windows.
4. Always have an earthquake kit ready in your home and car because the Big One is supposed to strike at any moment.
5. Bring any asthma inhalers since people who have asthma get attacks or eventually develop the disease, because of the smog.
6. If you're on the freeway, be careful which street you get off on. And if you do get off in a bad neighborhood, don't make eye contact with anyone.

7. Stock up on Polish products because it's hard to find them out here.
8. Learn Spanish.
I'm just teasing, of course. Millions of us live here and we're doing just fine.

I would recommend living as close to the beach as possible, Santa Monica is very nice and close to many employment options. It is also a vibrant community that is urbane with many services, recreational opportunities, good food and shopping. The downside is rent can be expensive--you can check out westsiderentals.com to get a sense for what is available. Best of luck, if you decide to do it, let me know. I know this area and others pretty well.

Yeah, I have a tip-expect to plan your move back to Chicago as soon as you move to LA. You will hate it as everyone with two functioning brain cells does. There are no more American white, middle-class people/families moving to SoCal.They haven't since sometime before the 2000 census. The population explosion continues, however, because of millions of Third World immigrants from Latin America, who have destroyed the middle class dream of living in Southern California. Gang violence and crime have become worse than Chicago's, following the unrelenting arrivals of these immigrants, the schools are rotten, and you will be stress sick from sitting in traffic all day in a city that is really a giant suburb. Unlike Chicago, you will have no support of anything resembling a culture. LA is the American nightmare that has been abandoned by Americans, who have moved to Nevada, Montana, Oregon, Washington, Utah, and Arizona. Hope your health insurance covers prescriptions becuase you will need Zoloft after the reality of your environment sinks in.

L.A. Sucks.
It's just a bunch of homeless people and mexicans.
Orange County is a better alternative if you want to be around more middle class white people.
I live in Hollywood and got robbed a few weeks ago about 1 block from my apartment.
L.A.P.D. never caught the the two blacks guy who punch me in the face and stole my cell phone and wallet.
Yeah, I'm not a very big fan of blacks and mexicans anymore.

I just want to add that I am from Houston, TX. and my standard of living has decreased since moving to L.A. because rent is 2 or 3 times more expensive.

Traffic is a nightmare too.
I also refuse to learn Spanish, whenever I call Dominoes in Hollywood to order pizza and they answer the phone in spanish and continue to speak in spanish as I've clearly stated I cannot understand them, that is when I know that L.A. has a cultural inbalance.

The USA is an English speaking countries of immigrants from all over the world. It is not any less difficult to migrate from Poland or Germany and learn English, as it is to migrate from Mexico and learn English.

Mexicans refuse to adhere to our way of life and stubbornly adorn their cars and everything they own with Mexican flags. My question to them is "Are you American or Mexican?"

If they state "Mexican," then they can cross the border and go back.
