miranda 5 Feb 2007 / #3personal or commercial reasons: if personal - there are polish delicatessen which should carry some. Commercial - I wouldn't know - google is your only hope:)
FISZ 24 | 2,116 5 Feb 2007 / #4I googled like a mofo and only found for commercial. I'll have to hound my local deli :)
miranda 5 Feb 2007 / #7took ya long enoughwhat's the story here?I'll have to hound my local deliI would- most of the Polish delis carry them, although they are not that fresh, I personally love them too, only when I am in Krakow:)
FISZ 24 | 2,116 5 Feb 2007 / #8Yeah...me too. They were selling some in Poz while I weas there. I managed to get a couple maybe 2 days before I left. I wrapped them in paper really tight and put them in a plastic bag. I figured that I can store them in my snowboard bag and they'll stay cold on the jet..only 9 hrs. Well, they ended up losing that bag and I had to wait 3 days and by then it smelled rank.

lisa cobley - | 1 8 Feb 2009 / #10Does anyone know if we can get Osycpek in the UK or by post? thanks
inkrakow 8 Feb 2009 / #11I believe that La Fromagerie in London may have it in season (April - October) and there's only 1 producer who has all the permits to be able to export it, so if you find out of season or unmarked then it's unlikely to be the real thing.
plk123 8 | 4,138 9 Feb 2009 / #12zgub,the polish grocers in chicago carry it on regular bases. it's normally in the cheese section too.
rdywenur 1 | 157 23 Feb 2009 / #13Just make sure it's the real thing. I understand there are many out there made to look like the original but are fake.
Sebastiansky - | 9 22 Mar 2009 / #14I had eaten "oscypek", when I was being in Pieniny mountains. "Oscypek" was O.K. The best "oscypek" is produce on a base of traditional polish highlanders recepture from sheep milk. In US are some polish shops, where can buy a "oscypek".
Polonius3 993 | 12,357 5 Oct 2009 / #15Merged: OSCYPEK (POLISH CHEESE) IN AMERICA?Anyone know where oscypek (Polish sheep's-milk cheese) can be obtained in the USA: importer, distributor, wholesaler, retail outlets?
Polonius3 993 | 12,357 5 Oct 2009 / #17Any names or addresses?Merged: US POLISH CHEESE IMPORTER?Anyone know of an importer in the US who imports Polish sheep's milk cheese oscypek to America? According to some reports I have heard, oscypek does not conform to US health specifications. Any truth to that?
inkrakow 5 Oct 2009 / #18Oscypek now has PGI status in the EU which means that the real thing can only be made to specific standards, which include the method, the place and the season (e.g. sheeps milk is only available from April to October). Further, to be able to export outside of Poland into the EU, another set of permits are needed (veterinary) and to date, only one producer has successfully obtained this for oscypek. From what I know, he doesn't export much as he can sell everything he makes here.Further, 'real' oscypek is unpasteurised, and US FDA regulations don't allow raw milk products that are less than 60 days old to be imported or sold, which is clearly crazy but there you go.
jimlipka - | 1 12 Oct 2009 / #19Oscypek is made from RAW (unpasteurized) sheep's milk and cannot be imported into the U.S. Some Look-alikes are sold but are not truly authentic.
ktrobbins - | 2 28 Oct 2009 / #21Oct 28, 09, 21:28 - Thread attached on merging:Oscypek in USDoes anyone know where to get oscypek cheese from in the US? Preferably in the northeast? Thanks!
ktrobbins - | 2 28 Oct 2009 / #23What do you mean? I've read about how it's made, and it seemed okay. Am I missing something?
