I understand poles coming to uk

if we lived in poland we would attempt your language ,if you want to live in the uk then speak frickin english .

Ever heard about thousands of Polish soldiers that stayed in the UK after the end of WWII? Did they not integrate? It's a rhetorical question, because we all know they did. They are still Polish communities spread all around the island that cherish their culture and origin, but generally they accepted the English way of life, and caused no further problems.

And they didn't had an easy life at the beginning. Just like today, they were also accused of taking the jobs, and under cutting the wages, but they stayed and now they are considered normal British citizens.

The same situation will happen with the current immigrants. Give them some time, just like you are giving it to the Pakistanis, although they did come to the UK later than the Poles, and after all those times, they still seem to cause some friction in the society.

well i must say i do agree with you on this one ,but they had more respect and thats true of all nations including the brits .The poles that are here now dont even attempt to integrate ,probably speaking of just my area but thats the view of the people here.

As usual this thread has got ridiculous. Most countries have both a good and bad side and you can find both beauty and ugliness in architecture, environment, people, culture, food, and history everywhe

granted yes ,but we dont want the low lifes ,the thieves and the ones that think they are the mafia ,we have our own low lifes without taking other countries.

I thought it was the Muslims that don't want to integrate (east london) Aren't the poles living amongst you?

but we dont want the low lifes ,the thieves and the ones that think they are the mafia

Who does. Unfortunately these types of people exist in all nations.

I think freddy, you'll find UK jails were plenty full of indigenous criminals before any recent immigration!

Plus I think you'll find plenty of UK people in foreign jails.

Ok, theres something seriously wrong with that sentance. :)

What I was trying to say was that the Poles just like the Pakistanis, have been present in the UK for sevelar decades, but while there are still some problems with the integration of the Pakistanis, the old polish group of immigrants is basically invisable.

I think polish people are the hardest working people i have ever known maybe it is due to the fact they have to to survive sucessfully in another country or they are genrally just hard working either way i think they are great

Don't hear that too often. Maybe you just have bad taste for good cuisine. Where are you from? Is your palate trained for fast food?

Any specific dish you really despise?

Yeah...it is pretty vague. There are so many different types of dishes.

Begosh or sour krout. Had one of the Polish chefs make me some and it was horrible. Also Polish apple pie is ruff as is all the other food I have been frought to try over the years. They keep trying to convince me that polish food can be good.

Bigos and saurekraut? Ok so you don't like cabbage and saurekraut. That's one dish and sauerkraut was originally Chinese and germans named it that. How can anyone dislike apple pie. It's different from American apple pie, but it's a lot better in my opinion...You must not like apples because it's nothing but chemical free apples and spices..what's not to like?

They were the two most recent attempts to convince me that Polish food is good. Just get over it Polish food is not good. Compare it to Hispanic Thai Indian French Malaysian Italian English Chinese Japanease and almost any other country and can you really tell me that there is anything good about Polish food.

I would even argue to call "sauerkraut" a dish. You don't eat it only by itself. BTW, I prefer the name kapusta kiszona (kapoosta kishona) or sour cabbage, because just like FISZ said, it's not a German "invention".

What I wasn't aware is that it was originally Chinese. I only knew that it was brought to Poland and the rest of the Eastern Europe by some Asian tribes, probably Mongols, at the beginning of the Middle Ages, and it was used by polish cooks ever since. Interesting. Every day you get to know something new.

They keep trying to convince me that polish food can be good.

Well, you can't please them all. Personally I love Bigos and sour cabbage. Besides, it’s very healthy. :)

Well aside from "plinze" and "ogórkowa" soup I love it all.

PS: This conversation is rather pointless, as everybody has different taste, and one really can't say which one is better or more valuable.

Yes, People love Pierogies! Almost everywhere I go Pierogies are mentioned when PL food is discussed. Barszcz is very polular here in the US, Stroganoff...which I think is Russian, but I believe there are PL versions of this..also frequently eaten many places including Brazil. If yyou like pork, there are tons of great pork dishes. Near the baltik there is some of the best fried flounder and cod I've ever eaten. You just need to try more things and don't assume all PL food is bad because you had 2 things. That's like saying all Chinese food is bad because I don't like General Tso's Chicken and and Szechuan beef.

I metioned begos and apple pie as they were the recent dishes Itries not becuase that was all I tried. But face reality its not like the streets are full of Polish restarants around the world. Every nation on earth seems to have Indian, chinese french and Italian restaurants. In the UK there are also Greek turkish and Thai places to eat. But no Polish food despite the legions of poles in the UK.Its becuase Polish food is no good.

A few other points. Stronganoff is Russian and the brazilian version has tomato sauce added so how is that related to Polish food. Also Pierogies are Russian and are shite compared to the Italian and chinese Equivalents.

If you think that pierogi are Russian than you have to be German. :)

So before the first Turkish restaurant was opened in the UK Turkish cousin was awful? Thank you for putting a smile on my face wine bar. :)

What about English restaurants? I never saw one in Poland, Germany, Czech Rep., etc...Does that mean that English food is awful? :)

PS: There are polish restaurants in England, Australia, USA, Germany, etc...Polish delicatessen are becoming more and more popular, not only among polish immigrants, but also among other nationalities. If you don't like it, well that's your opinion. I won't cry about it. :)

it is strange what you say as I made polish apple pie and my husband says that it is similar to English one and tastes really good.

Sauerkrout? it is more german thatn polish and if someone doesn;t like pickled food he wouldn;t like suer krat, picke onions, gherkins.....

There is one thing that Poland i really good I think cakes- I tried them in UK, Italy, France.... Our cakes are the best. And I must admit it is big influnece of jewish cuisine.

Chinese? all greasy.... Indian ok buy if you like everything spicy .....

I don't say that Polish food is the best but in the world ranking it is more to the top.
