Why Scotland doesnt Need any Immigrants By a Scotsman

So many people are the "me, me, me" types. Scottland may not need immigrants, but they need you!

Is Berwick still at war with Russia? Allegedly when England/Wales and Scotland declared war over the Crimea Berwick wasn't sure under whose laws it came and declared war independently. It was overlooked in the peace process afterwards and Berwick remained (may still be) at war with Russia.

So the story goes, a Russian diplomat came over in the 1960's to sign a peace treaty and the then mayor of Berwick said, "You can tell the Russian people that they can now sleep soundly in their beds!"

it would be no good for the economy, the money made on drinking taxes would plumit and all the scots in parliment would run off with all the cash, i think sct and uk need each other

Is there a thread entitled Why Scotland doesn't need any Scots by an Immigrant by any chance?

We want home rule for England. There is a slight techncial problem finding enough NEETs who can count to tally up the votes. Perhaps we should outsource the counting.

Well half the staff in the benefits office here will be out of work, not to mention the effect it will have on Lidls when they no longer spend their Giros there on cheap booze, mind you, I'll have a more pleasant walk home from work, when I'm no longer accosted in the park on my way home by drunken unemployed Scottish people asking me for money. I've never understood why they travel this far south just to sign on and sit on their arses getting pissed in the park, aren't there enough benches left for them back home?

I'm not so keen on English independence from Scottish hegemony as the balance of power would shift drammatically towards the conservative right. That doesn't mean I'm particularly keen on Labour / New Labour / Scottish Labour or whatever they are these days. Sorry all you Scottish nationalists about that.

Shall we all go and read some Adam Smith now?

Are you talking about the front bench in Westminister ? You are welcome to them.

As the only votes Gordon Brown ever got where in Scotland I think it's only fair he is returned to the people who voted for him, I'm sure you've got a spare park bench for him and his cronies

He has all the charisma of cold porridge.

The only difference being, cold porridge had once been warm and appetising, where as Gordon..........

In this sentence the most unusual word is "braw".
In Norwegian "bra" pronounced "braw", means "good".

I am of course just speculating but thousands of years of trade must have left some traces in the language.

When I sailed from Bergen, Norway to The Shetland Islands.
I was surprised at the language used, had many Norwegian words.

The word "Bairn" is common on the east coast. means "child" or "baby". The Swedish word is "Barn". east coast is where most of the viking settlements were, I imagine.

Orkneys and Shetlands actually belonged to Norway for a while.

Yes, exactly, in Norwegian too.

"Melk", in English "milk", not such a great difference but the way it is pronounced is the same.

east coast is where most of the viking settlements were, I imagine.

And trading routes, Dublin is a Viking town.

Orkneys and Shetlands actually belonged to Norway for a while.

How'd they loose them?.

The Norwegian king pawned them to Scotland when he needed to pay his daughter's dowry (she married a Scottish king) in 1468/9.

"Milk" is like the German word "Milch" (Scottish-style ch). Probably a pan-germanic word, like Kirche/kirk

you certainly have the right to be worried but still immigrant are important to the economy. most of which work 2 to 3 jobs, more taxs means more benefits for citizens. on one hand there are the benefits and other, the negatives.

I've also read that the legends of the Selkies (seal-people) may have come from Saami people (Laplanders) in their skin canoes (not Eskimo/Inuit as if often suggested) coming from Norway.

Damn seals... coming over here and taking our women and our fish! Send 'em back where they came from.
