Rise in race crimes linked to attacks on Poles

A GROWING number of attacks on Polish bar workers is being blamed for race hate crimes rising to record levels in Edinburgh.
Police are now dealing with an average of three racist incidents every day after another increase in complaints of abuse and attacks. Bar staff and doormen from eastern Europe are now among the most common victims.

no surprise there.it is always better to blame white poles for the crisis than other, dark skinned immigrants(this could make you a racist!) or yourself.very typical for this region of europe.

I'm sure the Pakistanis already got their part of bashing. Plus, it's not them that flood the UK in such great numbers in recent years.

PS: Good to see you back here on PF. :)

You guy's ought to try living in America. Our cities have all been abandoned due to white flight. There is no living with them.

A former workmate of mine made the mistake of stepping into an altercation between a man and his girlfriend on a station platform that was turning nasty. Because the violent man was of another colour, when the police arrived, my former workmate was arrested, charged and found guilty of racially-motivated affray. Incidents like this add to the numbers of so-called racially-motivated crimes. It undermines notions of equality. On the other hand, I am yet to see trouble between Polish and British people with my own eyes. That doesn't mean I don't believe it exists, but I do rhetorically ask: "What makes news?"

The quote from the Opening post is dated June 2007.

very typical for this region of europe.

The quote is from the paper "The Scotman", I take it the region of Europe you are referring to is Scotland ?
Mr Chojnowski, who has been based in Edinburgh for eight years, said he had never been subjected to racism. He added: "Unfortunately, there are people who will give abuse to bar staff regardless of whether they are from eastern Europe or if they are local."

I can imagine some racists attacking immigrants but I think it's as Szkotja said. Remember, these people are idiots, best left ignored.

best left ignored.

this is the worst.let it be ignored and it will spread very quickly.most of the poles in the uk are fine but this problem seems to be ignored by your authorites.

Maybe it's just the area I live in, but I don't tend to hear about racial attacks on anybody of any background

While I'm not in any way condoning such attacks, maybe when someone decides to move countries, they should be a little more "clued-up" about the places they are moving too ?

Some places will always have problems, whether it's the locals picking on each other or on foreigners, so better to leave them to it and live somewhere else.

very true, often where the housing is cheapest and even most decent locals would not like to live.

i'm sure many bartenders and bouncers get hassle from p*ssed up clients everywhere in the world, regardless of their nationality. what's with this self pity thing among Polish people, always crying that they are victims and everybody hates them. have you personally been assaulted cos of your nationality, rafik? there are racist idiots everywhere, but i'm sure that British bar staff get just as much abuse if they refuse to let the culprits into a bar or serve them alcohol. that's the risks this job brings, especially in a large, busy city such as Edinburgh. get over it.

The police can't be everywhere at all times.

The thing is, as Osiol may have alluded to, its the Police that are registering these as race attacks.
From the last link I posted
the force's detection rate for racist crimes was currently more than 90 per cent.
Go figure.

That's because Poles are an easy hate object: Europeans, white, mostly catholics. If the same would happen to black people, muslims or Indians... how racist would it be !

Idiots provoke ethnic tension, this is nothing new. There are Scots who live in council flats and skyscrapers that are nutjobs. Scotland has more than its fair share of irritating and brutal neds. Wasters on drugs.

However, it is better to see things in context with the fullest picture possible.

A British friend of mine got attacked in Poland waiting in a queue for some fast food. The cops, of course, just stood and watched.

Someone who helped my mate up told him th yobs had been talking about how they used to fight with the Brits in UK. Seems they heard his British accent...

You all sit on your computers and see someone bring up racially motivated topic and You all say nothing. Good. I must say that I am in this forum to defend race groups who are racially abused. If you can stand me, then we can trash it out here with words. I am also here to educate people about other races and how to accept other races. If you are also against that I am not backing out of war of words with you or you all.

The scots are not a race of people, niether are the poles.

however the nazis thought that the poles were an inferior subhuman race. However we know that thats not true. So lets learn from the past.

Educate me about the Scots

This world has only one race...and i dont care what wikipedia tells you. That race is the HUMAN RACE. Irrespective of different skin colours...we all have the same parts that make up the human being. No one is inferior to the other and no one is superior to the other too. Scots are not different from Poles neither are German different from the Indians, or Mexicans different from Blacks. This is the mistake we made a long time ago in the 17 century when we invaded Africa and Asia...We made them look like they were animals, we took them in ships and killed them. The Nazis also made this mistake, saying that poles are inferior. But this is totally false. We know better, now lets ACT better...and stop this racial abuse on this forum.
