You are Polish, tretos, you know how bureaucracy works ;) ;)

Persevere and keep chasing them up. Your attitude is good :)

Just as long as they are not illegally double-claiming as some did.

With respect Seanus you don't pay taxes in the UK now do you? I thought you lived in Poland and had done for quite a few years ?

:)

Only by virtue of getting the Certificate of Fiscal Residence and the P85 exemption from UK tax, Lir.

That doesn't matter, double claiming is just not right. I wouldn't claim benefits in 2 countries.

exemption from UK tax

I was merely pointing out that they aren't spending your money, that's all.

double claiming is just not right.

Of course not. How many Polish people in the UK are actually doing that then?

:)

Oh, it doesn't matter. They are spending other people's but whose money is whose is a discussion I care not for. It is complicated and who really knows these days?

I don't imagine that many are doing it, Lir. You'd have to get stats on it ;)

no, i was making fun of people who use those situations as excuse for claiming money from the govenrment, as i have no reason to claim anything. my friends are hard working people and married and i respect them.

I know Justy...youre talking about that huge fat family that was in the newspapers? "too fat to work and not our fault" that was quite funny!

However we are not all in the same boat (good thing or it would sink hee hee)
I wish my children WERE "illegitimate"....I didnt know anyone still used that word.;.)

my friend and her husband claim benefits on their kids but they both work full time so i don't see why they shouldn't.

If you mean child benefit then I don't see why they shouldn't either. They work and pay taxes here so yes they should get child benefit. My Polish friend and her boyfriend certainly claim for their daughter and right they should. They both work too.

I have no problem with anyone receiving benefits if there is a legitimate reason for them doing so. For example: If someone, especially during the credit crunch, finds themselves unemployed then why shouldn't they get a little bit of financial help to see them through?

I'm pissed off supporting layabouts to be honest, irrespective of what country they come from.

I think that says it all really. I agree with szarlotka in this quote. I don't knock my pan in for fifty-odd hours a week to pay for some lazy sod who just can't be bothered getting out of bed in the morning.

Exactly...wherever they are from

I couldn't agree more. Life doesn't stop during a crisis. Food is still a necessity.

I went to Slough's CAB (Citizens Advice Bureau) the other day to try to help my girlfriend with a few things to do with official paperwork. They were closed, but the waiting room was still accessible, so I had a look round at what notices were up on the walls. There seemed to be plenty of help on offer for people who speak Urdu, Gujarati and so on, but no mention of Polish. Maybe this is because Poles have come here to work and only in very recent times, whereas speakers of these other languages have relocated with families and have had much more time to set things up to be able to support eachother without the need to speak English.

There are two sides to this: one is that Poles are being pushed harder to use English to get by so this could make some things much harder for them. On the other side, this will push them into the community as a whole rather than ghettoising or enclaving them. It does make things into more of a sink or swim situation rather than having an extra safety net run by their own community ontop of the welfare system.

no mention of Polish

M& S have Polish as an option on their self service tills now...... I haven't checked Tesco out yet <probably cos I don't shop there often>

There's lots of Polish people who live there already :) Quite a large community :) am sure in Slough there will definitely be assistance for Polish people.

Amongst friends, I'm sure people help eachother out. I just haven't seen anything on the kind of scale other people have. With things like insurance, getting her passport back from the home office, dealing with the DVLA with the registration or tax or whatever of a car that blew up in Tescos car park, and plenty of other things, I have had to try to help my girlfriend and her family because of their poor English skills.

One example was to do with and M&S insurance account. They wanted Pan X. to phone them to sort out some details. It wasn't possible to do any of this online, so we phoned them up and I spoke to them (after going through the options - for this press 1, for that press 2...) Because Pan X. had to speak to them personally, I could only assist so far. We had to constantly pass the phone fro and to, with the woman on the other end constantly telling me to pass the phone back to Pan X who could follow a few things she said, but not enough. I asked if any of this could be done by post. No. How about online? No.

Let's face it - buying some stuff at the supermarket is a lot easier than dealing with the consequences of a car catching fire being written off. The easier it is, the more likely it is that there will be help.

It;s just that a lot of Polish people settled there after WW2 and it's well known for it having a large Polish population <2nd and 3rd generation too> Just need to look and ask I think ? There's Polish Churches, Polish supermarkets etc........I could understand it more if you lived in the area where I live but in Slough ? That really does surprise me osiol.

Good job they have you to help out really.......I'll look for more links if you wish me too <another time perhaps>

Hope you manage to sort it all out :)
