People who claim that suicide is a cowardly, selfish act and only the weak kill themselves have little if any understanding of the pain and suffering that leads to people taking their own life. It's not the easy way out. For many, it's the only way out.

Can you imagine what it takes to put a gun to your head and pull the trigger, can you imagine what it takes to put a knife to your wrists and slash at your flesh, can you imagine what it takes to put a tube to the exhaust and sit there waiting to die? Can you? Can you imagine the pain and despair that would drive you to do this?

Most people contemplating suicide do not want to die, they just want to stop the pain and difficulties they are experiencing

Thats what makes it even sadder

Do people really think that this mother and father wanted to leave their children parentless?

Seems to be a lot of pre concieved ideas about suicide.
This is a good link for those that genuinely want to try and understand suicide -

I completely agree with you. I think others also (teens esp.) just want those they feel somehow victimized by to feel "sorry" whether it is parents, peers, etc. Some want to be caught "attempting" suicide, while others go through either because they see no hope, or suffer delusions of watching the people who hurt them wail in sorrow at a funeral, all the while forgetting that they themselves will not be there ever again to accept the apologies of those involved...

I'm not a doc and I'm rambling.
I basically agree.

my life is stress right now I just lost my mother

my condolences

and going through a divorce

my condolences again.

but I have friends

thats a good thing, everyone needs Friends, someone who will Notice when
things arent right and make sure that your ok,, that prob wasnt the case
in the polish parents situation and its sad that people would say such things
not fully knowing their situation, what happened, so just condem them and
you dont even know who they are.. we dont know who you are yet we'
offer condolence.. and I would think someone on this board, if they seen a sign
and I think someone we know has felt this way, were to talk differently, people
react to it and try to help.. least thats the normal way...

but its no excuse for people to be selfish then.

well its your choice if you choose to be shallow and not re-educate yourself.

I think until you have lost someone you know to suicide it's hard to understand
, for me suicide is a desparate act commited by a desparate person and even the strongest person has their breaking point. I really do hope that those of you who think that it's a cowardly act or the act of a weak minded person never have to lose someone this way.

Strange that if someone gives their life in order to achieve something then it is concsidered a brave and valiant act

But if someone takes their life due to pain and turmoil it is considered weak and cowardly

The difference being give and take it seems
