Two years ago there was a place called Ziozel in Inverness which had Polish dished with a Scottish twist (game in the Bigos for example). It was good but I'm not sure whether it is there or whether there are any other places now. Ziozel was more of a cafe rather than formal restaurant
Hi Monika - Ziozel is no longer there. There are three Polish delis but no restaurant. There is a Polish supplement in the local paper ( sometimes) and there is a PL/Inverness website ( which aint that great ).
The story I was told was. . . . . the lady that had the shop, it sold Baltic crafts as well, started the cafe as a sideline but ended up doing OK out of it. A few years ago she was one of the few Polish people in town, so if any new Polish folk needed help they would go to her. Being the kind lady she was, this took up a lot of her time and so the cafe suffered a bit, then the shop changed hands.
A good story but the owner probably just decided to move on. I remember she did a mixed plate of Golbki, Pierogi and Bigos- a great introduction to Polish food.
A Polish restaurant would go down well, I'ness was the fastest growing town in EU for a few years and there is a lot of disposable income around, not to mention a few thousand Polish people.
I think at least one of the Delis will close down, due to lack of quality, its selling the usual stuff in jars that you can get in Tescos.
Its cheaper to start up a deli than staff a restaurant.
I'd heard that there were over 3000 Polish people in Inverness so the basis of a clientel would be there provided the pricing was OK. And if you can get the locals interested.... I sense a plan coming together here.
