Hey everyone! I am glad i found this forum. It is quite interesting!
I have been persuaded to go snow boarding in Zakopane in January and I wanted to ask people who live tehre or have been there what it is like.

I normally go to the french alps, but my mate said we should go here insterad. And now the flight and apartment is booked :) i am really excited as i havent been snowboarding before (just skiing usually).

What are the conditions likely to be like, cost of hire of equipment ???
What are the local people like, friendly like me i hope :) lol
and the night life for a bunch of twenty something guys from London ?

you can also get me or add my msn stevie_vee@hotmail

Follow the link below for an overview of Zakopane and it's slopes.

Locals are very friendly. Zakopane is busy when the conditions are good. There are other places on the Slovakian side that are less busy. The night life is Polish ergo it's good.

have a great time.

It's good snow, but crowded and unfortunately there's no off-piste boarding/skiing.

Nope - Argentiere for me. I loved Zakopane for being different but for skiing Les Grand Montets and the Valle Blanche take some beating!

I know both French Alps and Zakopane ;)
For skiing, i don't really know which is better...Maybe it depends if you are there just for fun, or if you want more difficult and diversified slopes ;)

I was in Zakopane last Christmas and i really enjoyed it ! The city is really nice ! For skiing, i went to slopes at night, less crowded...and Polish people are cool (but cheater in the slope queues sometimes...LoL), and beware, there are quite a lot of Russians and Ukrainians...LoL ;) I remember of some Dutch people too, English speaking guys, Germans sure, and others... ;) It was a nice holiday ;)

I have just got back from poland after being there for a month. as well as going to pznan and Krakow i went to zakopane and went to ski. The snow was great. there are also other things to do like hiking up the mountins, ski hire was 40Zl per day. chair lift was 10 Zl which is not alot.i would take some warm chlothes. i caught a cold. it was -5 in the day and -14 by night....i did warn you!

If u want more info pm me
