Would there generally still be any snow left in April to ski on, either in Zakopane or over the border in Slovakia?

It is difficult to say.
The news says that there is over a metre of snow in Zakopane.
This will take a while to melt.
I caught the last of the ski season last year at the end of March.
But I will be going skiing next week and I will let you know the conditions.

I would think it is highly unlikely in Zakopane that there will be any snow left in April to ski on, and the only time I know of was back in 2001 because I was there then, but that was an especially long winter.

You will just be able to have some skiing in April on the High Tatras on the Slovakian side namely Strbske Pleso and if you go to this page it has a history of webcam shots where you can see the conditions by day for each month for the last five years.

If you want to know where to stay PM me, as I have a very cheap address in a restaurant very close to the ski run, but I am not going to post it here as it is too good a place to lose and would ruin my own chances of booking there.

could be 50-50, but chances are good in the higher peaks: one near Zkopane in Poland where you can take a cable car (Kasprowy Wierch, 1900 meters elev.) and a couple in Slovakia (Ruzemborok, Strebske Pleso, etc).

lol @ Juche, where is Zkopane? In all the years I have been here I have never heard of this. And I am sure there is an echo here lol

I was in Zakopane and Slovakia last weekend
(I will open a new thread about Slovakia soon).

I had some guests from The U.S.A to impress and boy oh boy!, did Zakopane do the trick :)

The visibility was excellent, hence the best photo I have taken of the Tatras so far :)

Eating, listening to live music and drinking, a great time was had by all.

If you follow the main pedestrianised street (Ul. Krupowki) north, down hill you will come to the main market with many outside stalls.
Keep going through the market and at the end you will find Gubalowka Hill.

Gubałówka Hill funicular, used to transport riders to the summit

from here Wiki

I went up this for the first time yesterday, there are bars and restaurants at the top.
I took the last photos above this post from the top and on the walk down.

my trip was great! i was there for 4 days. i realized though that i am not in any physical condition to be walking all over those hills because i hiked up to kasprowy wierch and i nearly died! then we walked over to czerwony wierchy and i nearly died again!! however, the scenery was beautiful. here are some pics from our hike.

i spent some time walking up and down ul. kropowki, lots to see and do for sure. we visited a couple of bars where there were bands playing regional music.

our very last day it rained. and that's how it was the rest of the trip, all the way back to krakow and then olsztyn.

i couldn't post any pics, they were too big.

When I went up I couldnt see a thing from the top as it was p***g with rain and blowing a gale.. mostly everything was closed, but I did discover a bar and had my first taste of hot beer, which was well needed, then I bought a fleece on the way back cos it was that cold.
