Smokeyone 17 | 62 22 Apr 2008 / #1HelloI use a 18866 dialing code to make cheap calls abroad and have also tried the 0840 prefix system but they often give me grief. Of course BT works each time but at vast expense.Any suggestions for a reliable service to call landlines in Poland please.
LondonChick 31 | 1,133 22 Apr 2008 / #2I use the 0844 numbers given on the international call checker on moneysavingexpert.com at the moment, I call 0844 200 9898 and then dial the landline number in Poland - costs 0.5p a min.
irishdeano 5 | 304 22 Apr 2008 / #3i use lebara moblie costs 9p min to ring from moblie to polish moblie
OP Smokeyone 17 | 62 22 Apr 2008 / #4So far this morning I have tried18866181850844 200 95950844 838 4840All my calls are to firms in Poland, would that make a difference....Just tried 0844 200 9898 - I did dial 0048 - and the message said I would like to call the UK...........
Frank 23 | 1,183 22 Apr 2008 / #5I have used another company, 18185, just google this number, plus there is another thread on this...they do texts for 1 p to Poland, mobile to mobile in Poland/or to UK 6p a min, not sure of landline.
LondonChick 31 | 1,133 22 Apr 2008 / #6Just tried 0844 200 9898 - I did dial 0048 - and the message said I would like to call the UK...........Really? I called a publisher there this morning and used that number, and it worked.
OP Smokeyone 17 | 62 22 Apr 2008 / #7Just tried 18185 again, message half a pence per minute then high pitched whine...18185 0048 33 49xx xxxAm I missing something because I have just telephoned via BT and got through straight away....0048 33 49xx xxx
LondonChick 31 | 1,133 22 Apr 2008 / #8what kind of landline do you have? or are you calling from a mobile?
OP Smokeyone 17 | 62 22 Apr 2008 / #9Ordinary BT landline....just used 18866 to call a mobile in Poland and it worked fine but still no luck with several different landlines...Just an update, still cannot get the cheap numbers to work to office direct numbers in Poland but strange I managed to get through okay to office fax machines and private numbers. Makes me think it is something to do with office telephone systems....
lowfunk99 10 | 397 22 Apr 2008 / #10I use a phone card to call Poland from the US. It costs me 2-3 cents per minute.
sausage 19 | 775 22 Apr 2008 / #12I use Skype's "to go" service, this is good if you call the same number regularly. What I do is use my landline phone to dial a special UK number which connects to my beloved's landline in Poland. It seems to be more reliable and clearer than ringing direct...
LondonChick 31 | 1,133 22 Apr 2008 / #13I just called a hotel using 0844....I am seriously tempted to come round to your house to sort out the problem.
OP Smokeyone 17 | 62 23 Apr 2008 / #14I'll put the kettle on !!So far two tourist offices & two travel agencies & a bus company....no luckHowever, one hotel, one travel agency fax, one bus company fax & mobiles okayFor any telephone experts..is there a Polish telephone system that does not likere-direct calls/0844 etc
Magdalena 3 | 1,837 23 Apr 2008 / #15This number I used to call the Polish Ministry of Justice, and it worked like a dream:0844 861 25 25- it's 1p per minute and has never let me down in three years. Enjoy! :-)
OP Smokeyone 17 | 62 23 Apr 2008 / #16Just tried to make a call.....welcome to telesavers....info and finish by pressing the hash buttondialed the number0048 33 49 xxxxxone moment pleasestill just the sound of static after minutesAm I unlucky..........
Magdalena 3 | 1,837 23 Apr 2008 / #17Keep trying several times. The line isn't always good, but it works in the long run.
OP Smokeyone 17 | 62 24 Apr 2008 / #18I did after I posted on the forum but still did not get through. With other cheap numbers I sometimes received a message sayingthat I had dialed an incorrect number - please check and try again
LondonChick 31 | 1,133 24 Apr 2008 / #19Ooooh guess what happend to me this morning?? Just tried to call a business number in Poland using the 0844 and I got the same :)
Magdalena 3 | 1,837 24 Apr 2008 / #20I don't know then... :-(I can't say the service I got was seamless, but I did get through any time I needed to call - sooner or later, but still did.
OP Smokeyone 17 | 62 24 Apr 2008 / #21I am beginning to think it might be something to do with telecomm systems in offices but still find it odd that when I tried to fax to the same office it worked first time. Do office telecomm systems in buildings have a different set up for faxes rather than voice phone chat.....I am now at the stage where I am trying to mobile numbers because that would still be cheaper on a 0844 type number than BT's overpriced landline.....
LondonChick 31 | 1,133 24 Apr 2008 / #22How about two yoghurt pots and a very long piece of string?Smokeyone - are you calling from an office? If you are, that might be the reason that you have some problems.
OP Smokeyone 17 | 62 25 Apr 2008 / #23I am calling from home....Just checked my BT bill online and "oh blimey"..........Must solve the mystery...How did you get through in the end....
lowfunk99 10 | 397 26 Apr 2008 / #24I have only called a few English teaching schools but it has worked.
OP Smokeyone 17 | 62 27 Apr 2008 / #25Any other suggested cheap call systems besidesthe 18866 or 0844 type.......................
walterburgess - | 2 8 May 2008 / #26I use free-international-calls-on-mobiles.comFor poland and estonia it is 1p a min . Good rate and good quality. I like itI text TXT2TALK to 80556 and get credit to make calls to Estonia
BubbaWoo 33 | 3,506 8 May 2008 / #271p is absolutely fantastic but its not quite 'free-international-calls-on-mobiles'what do they charge for calls to trading standards?
joepilsudski 26 | 1,388 12 May 2008 / #28What do you use to make calls to Poland? Two cans connected to a very long string!
OP Smokeyone 17 | 62 4 Jun 2008 / #30Have now paid BT £1 a month to get cheapish calls to Poland rather when the other providers do not work.Wonder if London Chick (see above post) got through to her problem number!
