Golf (courses) in Poland!

I was over in Poland for a week last summer !
While over there I failed to notice any golf courses
not only that I never noticed any golf equipment in
any sports shops !
Why is this?
Is the game not played over there !
To my knowledge there are not too many golfers from
Poland on the professional circuit !

Anyone got any answers to this !
Or is Golf just a game that has never taken off over there ?

We prefer more active sports :)

Soccer, boxing (not too popular, bit it's big) hockey, racing, etc. :)

First Warsaw Golf & Country Club was OK. Three years ago there were about 8-10 course only in Poland. It's expensive for the locals to play but that should change.

The golf courses I have seen so far and the golfers who play are both horrid. They have one part down though! The drinking! I'm suprised it's not as popular in Poland. In the states it's a Great drinking game :)

It was similar over here until about 20 years ago but it became more accessible to more people !
Do you think now would be the ideal time to inject some interest in the game ?
I had the idea of starting a golf driving range over there to try and create more interest in the game for more people ! It is really a good and sometimes frustrating game to play !!!

A few people have tried it already. I remember there was an indoor range in Warsaw that lasted about 6 months. I think the game will take off more when disposable incomes increase. And correction it's always a frustrating game:)

Just think, in about 20 years the English will have built lots of golf courses on all the lovely farm land :)

Yep, I'm waiting until BW and Giles have just built a new development then I'm going to hire Ola123 to knock it down and build a new course:)

all the lovely farm land

Farming will take a dive in Poland too like it did in England 20 years ago !
My advice to Polish farmers would be to diversify now before it is
TOO LATE !
I know a number of farmers who did this ! AND THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN AS WEALTHY
Dont be sentimental in business !
People get swallowed up if they are too slow to act !
They said England was a country of farmers but now look we even
import a percentage of our milk !

What would you prefer beautifully landscaped fair ways and lakes, with lots of wild life areas or hectares upon hectares of dirt and mud seasonally sprouting harvest?

Whats the scoop about golf in Poland?

The courses that are worth playing are extremely expensive and rare, the smaller out of town ones if you can find them are generally a bit better than sticking a flag in a field and trying to hit the ball near it.

they say golf not very big in poland

It is gaining momentum though - there was a big golf industry conference in Warsaw the other week.

Give it 10 or so years... it takes time to design and build a decent course....

Golf is becoming more and more popular in Poland, I play at the relatively new 18 hole course Lisia Polana to the north of Warsaw near Modlin, there are also two new courses being built to the south of Warsaw opening in the next couple of years. There is also the well established but pricey First Warsaw Golf and Country Club to the north of the city.

For beginners there are training courses through PlayGolf which enable you to learn without having the expense of becoming a member at a club.

The game is administered in Poland by the PZG. They administer all handicaps centrally. All golf courses in Poland have a 'slope rating' indicating their difficulty level which means rounds played on any course can adjust your handicap, allowing non golf course members to have official handicaps.

There's a list of all the golf clubs in Poland here pzgolf.pl/kluby/ although it's confusing as there are many entities in Poland who call themselves 'golf clubs' but don't actually have a proper golf course. There are actually only about a dozen 18 hole courses in Poland.

The most talked about course in Poland at the moment is the recently opened and Gary Player designed 18 hole Modry Las near Choszczno ,I've yet to play it but by all accounts it's stunning.

Another recently opened 18 hole course is Sand Valley near Elbląg.

I played at the Polish Club championships a few weeks ago at Amber Baltic Golf Club near Międzyzdroje, great course and the fastest greens I've ever putted on.

Modry Las

and

Amber Baltic Golf Club

are both quite near to Binowo Golf Club, so you could easily spend a couple of days in NW Poland checking out three different courses there.
