Racist problems are not much worse in Warsaw and Krakow than in some parts of Western Europe. But the attitude toward homosexuals is something completley different. Many Polish people consider homosexuals as the lowest form of life. So I would be very careful if I were you. But the situation in Warsaw and Krakow is better than in smaller cities.

When I think about it I have actually never seen two men kissing or holding hands in Poland, and I have been here for 2 years. So I guess that those people don't show it in public here. Maybe for safety reasons.

That was a joke right? I've seen pufters in most cities I've visited (quite a few) (I have gay friends so I can call them pufters too! ;0) ) - it's a social norm and nothing unusual to see to blokes holding hands in the UK these days...Im sure it's quite different in Poland, but Im also sure that will change over the years.

In Warsaw and Krakow you should have no problems. But don't go out to the suburbs and make sure you take taxis late at night rather than night buses.

we are also gay, is that also an issue?

It most probably won't be in Warsaw or Krakow. But you probably don't want to be holding hands or kissing in public.

who can give us some tips?

I don't know about Krakow's gay venues but in Warsaw Lodi Dodi (on Wilcza street) is a superb gay bar. Rasko (on Burakowska) is insane on the right night (I'm not sure if they still have the stripping transvestite singer on Thursday nights or not) and pretty good every night. Galeria (in the basement of Hala Mirowska on Jana Pawla) can be rammed with people going nuts on both dancefloors or it can be completely empty, I can't work out which nights will be what. Warsaw's most famous gay club, Utopia, is well worth avoiding. It is commonly referred to as the "Cretin's Choice" and is packed with mincing hairdressers and their pouting boytoys, along with various people who think that being gay is a fashion statement.

Yes you're right it's quite normal. In most of the cities and bigger towns it's very common-place to see gay guys holding hands, especially at night when everyone is out on the town. I'm sure it will change in Poland too as more gay clubs open in the cities.

Do be careful though mvefa, if some yobs start on you and your boyfriend just walk away and keep walking if they continue, the opposite reaction is exactly what they want. Enjoy Poland, as others have said, you're probably going to the two most tolerant cities for gay people in Poland. You'll have fun. :)
