I was in St. Petersburg when it was still Leningrad. Better to see it in the Summer time and not in winter. When I was there it was absolutely freezing.

What a great picture and I'm pleased to say I have been there as well!

I miss my Mom, I miss my Dad, I miss my dog and I miss some other special people who were a part of my life and are no more. I miss the interesting regulars off the forum who seem to have disappeared as well.

Maybe a thread on what we don't miss :)

Because I don't miss the rain and cold weather when it is hot :)

I never miss any of it. It is easy to be romantic but lets be honest-dirty run down streets with wooden scaffolding, which has been there for twenty years or more holding these old smelly buildings up. Not a very pleasant place at all. Many two faced people too!

What scaffolding?? Were you one of the homeless pissed up farts when you were here?

I remember when I was last there in in Kraków in 1986 I saw loads of wooden scaffolding holding up buildings and a man who's father lived in Kraków, hence his visits at that time to see him whilst he was still alive told me that this same wooden scaffolding had been there for years. Things change very slowly in Poland. Mind you-I have news-I am visiting Warszawa again after so many years in June. I am really looking forward to vising places I once knew. I am flying British Airways mind you-no old Russian aircraft with LOT for me-I have never forgotten the horors of crashing Russian planes outside Warsaw when I was last in Poland.

There were lots of roads being dug up when i visited Krakow (this March), not too far away from where Polishgirl's lovely photo was taken.

visiting Warszawa again

The airport (Terminal 2) is probably the place that has seen most improvement

maybe somebody will find that info useful

Foreign visitors can find locals eager to practice speaking English and other languages at the English Language Club on the second floor at ul. Sienna 5 (i.e. two floors above the ground floor at 5 Sienna Street, less than 100 metres from the main market square) on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m.

actually that website is great for visitors in Krakow... wikitravel.org/en/Krakow

In Poland there has been more change since 1986 than the low density space between your ears could ever comprehend.

Another fantastic picture polishgirltx thanks for posting it. They are great pics, did you take them yourself ?

I am visiting Warszawa

The Polish Authorities have your picture on file and you have been banned from entering the Country. If you try to enter you will be sent to Prison for 50 years, with absolutely no internet access either. I'll gladly send you the air fare to Warsaw so you can be locked up and they can throw away the key. Oh, hang on a second, you aren't real hehe !!

It was a while ago when we visited but I'll try and get some posted. We didn't realise we were there until we walked into a bar to ask for directions and everyone spoke Polish and it was the best time ever we had in Paris.

lucky you :)

Yes, I have only been once before so am really looking forward to it and I shall post piccies when we get back. :)

Yep, Lady in red lol.......I visit here sometimes...<g>

Krakow speciality:
Obwarzanek

The best thing to start a culinary journey in Krakow. The obwarzanek is a cousin of the Jewish bagle but made of different dough. Obwarzaki were first mentioned in the 15th century. Its name changed according to political circumstances: precel, bajgel, obwarzanek.
