Polish Universities - are there any entrance exams?

Does anybody know about Polish Universities? Are there any entrance examinations for native Poles, any sort of selection, or can anybody who has finished high school enrol in any faculty, for example medical school, or does each faculty accept only a limited number of students? Do all native Polish students get State grants or do they have to pay their way?

There are very competitive exams for entrance to university depending on the field of study.I guess for medicine is not that difficult to enter cause doctors in Poland make less money than lawyers, economists etc.

For people who pay fees, entrance is of course guaranteed.(for example medical school in Poznan).Common in Eastern Europe.Either you pay,or you are a very good student,or you cheat.Or you combine the three factors of success to an optimum.

Things may have changed but in my time there was about 20 to 1 ratio of candidates vs. available spots, so it was very competetive. At that time doctors made even less, in relation to other professions.

there is no such a dependence. medicine is extremely difficult studies and it's quite difficult to enter...

Generally, higher education in Poland is free, but most university departments require applicants to take an entry test. of course there is a limited number of students that will be admitted. these who won't can apply for the non-residential courses (but these are not free of charge)

There are also private universities/colleges where you only enrol and pay for tuition.

when it comes to grants, you can get scholarship if you have good grades. there are also social(?) grants for students who have low monthly income, but it's not much money.
