Why is the zloty called PLN? I've been trying to work out what those letters stand for.

PLZ-when it used to be the old zloty...and after denomination changed to PLN ...

I suppose it could be that until recent history, there were many more different coins in circulation around all corners of Europe, which eventually settled down into modern currency. Zloty could have been more the name of a coin than the actual currency, rather lkike the UK has a currency called the Sterling.

Thanks everyone!

Now another question. A hotel told me today that my room will cost 140 zl. I make that £34 using xe.com, but the hotel said no, it is £45.

How did they make that happen? Do you think they took that from their own kantor, if they have one? It was Hotel Promenada, Ostroda.

The first 2 letters of a currency code are always the code for the country, PL(N) for Poland, GB(P) for Greast Britain, US(D) for the United States and so on.
