I've been approached by a TV production company in the UK who, for some reason, want to strange events/competitions for her presenters to compete against each other.

Examples already found by her in Europe are :-

· world mobile phone throwing COMPETITION

· WORLD SAUNA CHAMPIONSHIPS

· Wife Carrying World Championships

· Mosquito Swatting Championships

· Ant-Nest Sitting Competition

Any information on something along a similar theme would be appreciated.

In the North of Holland they have a thing called "swientie tikken" (lit: Swine ticking). The let a couple of pig run wild in a field full of mud and two or more contestants try to touch all of those porkers. The one who has done so the first is the winner. The contestants are allow to hinder the others in reaching their goals where pssbl. If you successfully hinder somebody from touching a swine, you get one point awarded, so you will have less hogs to touch, yet the one stopped gets one point deducted. Matches can last for an entire afternoon.

Another one is "farmers lotto". A clean field is divided in -I think 100- squares and they let cows run free on it. Ppl make bets in which square a cow will sh*t. For the rest it's the same as a lottery.

Edit: there is another one, but that's not a sport and a bit cruel as well. Since cows sleep standing up, some ppl make it a competition to push as many cows over as pssbl. You can actually quite easily push a cow over at night and it literally falls down on its side when you push them while they sleep standing. The cows will survive, they just get startled, but nevertheless I think this is a bit cruel to do.

Kinda narrow field to look as Poles only have traditions that make sense (at least to themselves, that is). And besides, you said "in Europe".

And for what audience is this program made? I think it would be better to take examples out of the whole of Europe, you get more choice and you could make a series of it. If you only look for Polish events, you hardly can fill up one program...But that's just my opinion.

M-G (it's a global village, but it won't be an interesting program, narrowing it down to PL)

Weird and quirky events and competitions in Poland.

there is some madness that takes place in the mountains... contraptions are designed and constructed... cardboard cars etc... the contestants then try to get to the bottom of the mountain in one piece. can't find a link though.

most guitar players in one place... an annual affair in wroclaw. it's on youtube

most people bouncing a basketball in one place. wroclaw holds this record... i think.

Światowe Mistrzostwa w Rzucie Młotkiem do Telewizora - (Throw with a Hammer at a Telly World Championship) - Bałąg near Jonkowo at Olsztyn, beginning months of each year (Feb/Mar), organised by Jarosław Guła on his private meadow. However - no entry for the TV.

TV are banned, so I wouldn't risk turning it into Throw with a Hammer at a Telly and a Camera World Championship (:
