Here we go, Ireland has an opinion and now you are making us look like we have single handedly destroyed the E.U.

I think you are just being controversial.
Of course Ireland loves all 17 Billion euros we got from the EU.

And I know no Irish man that dislikes the EU.

So I think you are ill informed

The bile-filled assault on Irish voters who are thinking of rejecting the Lisbon Treaty shows just how corrupt and undemocratic is the EU.

Hello to you all from a new poster.

Just to correct Bratwurst Boy's claim on Irish attitudes to the EU. I would say that Ireland is now at least as eurosceptic as the UK as evidenced in the 53% NO vote in the Lisbon referendum.

And that 17 billions he mentions is but a drop in the ocean of the estimated 200 billion in fish taken from Irish waters since Ireland joined the EEC in 1973.

Ireland has woken up to the EU bigtime!

Hello GaelForce,

That was me who said that Bratwurst Boy just asked a question. Not to worry, easy mistake to make.
Anyway I still stand by my original post.
The E.U. has helped Ireland and your point about the estimated 200 billion in fish taken from Irish waters, I do not think is realistic. I do not know about fishing and I would have to research this or alternatively you could send a link or explain it further.

Ireland has become a first world country since the 1973.
Are you saying that if Ireland had not joined the E.U. we would have made our money on fish and developed like we have?

No, because we never developed our own fishing industry in the way Iceland did, agriculture was shortsightedly prioritized at the expense of fishing.

Personally I believe we should leave the EU and join Norway and Switzerland in EFTA leading other EU countries to take the same option. We joined a trading block not a political union. The EU has over extended itself and become too big for it's boots in effect.

No, because we never developed our own fishing industry in the way Iceland did,

So even if we could have made our money on fish we did not.

The EU has over extended itself and become too big for it's boots in effect.

Why do you think this?

We could have licensed fishing and controlled our one true resource while building an industry.

27 countries, it has to fall apart eventually??

Lisbon is the first Euro treaty that refers to the EU's population as "it's citizens". I don't wish to be it's citizen. I don't think most other Europeans want to be it's citizens, but then they were not asked.

We could have licensed fishing and controlled our one true resource while building an industry.

But we did not. And I doubt if we had we would have been that successful.

27 countries, it has to fall apart eventually??

No, there are 50 states in America. Europe is small and even smaller if we do not get together.

Lisbon is the first Euro treaty that refers to the EU's population as "it's citizens". I don't wish to be it's citizen. I don't think most other Europeans want to be it's citizens, but then they were not asked.

I do think you have a very valid point that other countries did not get the opportunity to vote, sounds mad. At this stage of the game it has to be democratic.

I have no problem being a European citizen, so long as Europe stands for Democracy.

Did you know that almost half of the EU caught fish ending up on European plates comes from Irish waters?

Culturally, linguistically and economically etc America is a nation it bears no comparison with the hotchpotch that is the EU. It can only fail as a union and it's obvious fear of public mandate is telling as it stumbles from one rejection to the next.

I did not, I must ask a question.
Does that not mean that the fish come from the ocean, north Atlantic drift and all?

If the EU were to apply to join itself it would fail the accession criteria for lack of democracy.
