POLISH FOREIGN MINISTER IN TROUBLE OVER JOKE?

A joke attributed to Polish Foreign Minister Radek Sikroski is gaining momentum in politcal circles. Sikorski asked: "Did you know Obama has got some Polish

roots... His grandfather once ate a Polish missionary." Sikorski himself has not commented so far, but his spokesman Jacek Paszkowski issued a statement alleging that Sikorski was telling the joke solely to illustrate the kind iof jokes one shouldn't tell.

When asked about the joke, PM Tusk remarked: "If I were a public informer and told about the kind of jokes being told by politicians, you (the media) would have a field day but Polish politics would be a shambles."

Post-commie leader Wojciech Olejniczak said the joke has been repeated and laughed out throughout Poland's political circles for somem time "because it's funny!"

not in my opinion.

I didn't think so either. It's not going to be funny unless it is rooted in reality.

Beyond that, there are some jokes I might find funny, but wouldn't tell publically or in certain other places. For example, I wouldn't tell my boss the "Aristocrats" joke.

For Christ sake.. It was a joke.. Is it any different that Polish Jokes? I hear them all the time.

It's a pretty stupid, unfunny joke. Just because other jokes are idiotic and told by idiots, it doesn't mean it's okay to make idiotic jokes.

Right, so there's a talent scout sitting in his office, and a family walk in with their dog.
"So, can you show me your act?" he says.
So the father unzips his...

I'm not saying any more!

That's just the start of a very long joke, and you're not getting any more of it from me.

So tell me, how is the joke that this thread is about funny?

I wouldn't say my skin is particularly thin. Hurt feelings? It just looks like you don't understand what I am trying to say.

What kind of joke is acceptable and what is not acceptable from a politician?
What do you actually find funny that may be considered wrong or unacceptable in public life?

If a politicians feels some particular way about something, it is best that the public gets to know about it, so I don't believe in censorship of such opinion.

I bet he would not dare to tell a jewish joke. Especially considering his ties to jews.
But to imply that all people of african origin have something to do with cannibalism, that by his view is quite OK.

I do not find the joke funny.
I am concerned that others may think that all Poles are limited as the person who said the joke.

The archaeological records show that cannibalism was once popular in Europe too. In fact, you only have to read the wikipedia article on cannibalism to see something of the true extent of this practice (in modern countries, including European ones).

But to imply that all people of african origin have something to do with cannibalism, that by his view is quite OK.

It is okay for him to think that. But it does make him an idiot.

Lol if he is an idiot then all Americans are idiots

Obama is quoted making plenty of Polish jokes not to mention most Americans have made one Polish joke once in their lives or at least have laughed at a Polish jokes.

This is just a cause of reverse discrimination as if Obama were not black and if sikorski made a joke noone would care. But since Obama is black people are going to freak out and try to get sikorski in trouble.

Whether the joke is funny or not is not the point. A politicial who makes a joke like that where peoiple can hear him is an idiot. If we (Israel) had a politicial doing that, I'd be real embarassed.

what if the joke wouldn't be about the future US president? and not from the mounth of a politician? would it be funnier then?

What if it were told about a Polish-American president-elect? It wouldn't make sense, because Poles aren't cannibals, right? Well Africans, with all their faults, are also not cannibals. (I think it's more of an issue in some remote parts of new Guinea) So telling a joke like that is embarassing for the one who tells it becuase it shows his ignorance.

If I told a "Polish Joke" in a Polish university I would look like an idiot because it would look as if I believed the premise, that Poles are stupid.

Every group though, has to tell jokes about fools, so they pick a group at random. Americans pick Poles, British joke about the Irish. Polish Jews told jokes about jews from Chelm. Are people in Chelm known to be dumb?

No. All the conspiracy strategies are in place. But I should probably get started on poisoning some wells. Ahh, a Jew's work is never done.

True, and now that the Zionist gangster Emmanuel will be running things at the White House, the Jews will be busy indeed...Of course, they can rest on Shabbat...But Jews have a sense of humor about Blacks...'Kushi kill Kushi' and all that.

It rather annoys me that foreign notions of what political correctness (such b.s. imo) should be imposed on a sovereign nation.

Is this about the inaccuracy of the joke or about what's being interpretted as politically correct in the u.s?

It's no funnier than Obama himself joking with reporters early last week that his daughters had bought the White House a new dog, 'a mutt like me', he quipped.

Both remarks, even when self deprecating, are pretty tactless!
