I have had so many issues with banks in Poland and most of the time i knew more than the bank assistant. Its crazy, this doesnt only go for banks but thats a diff story .....

I heard a Politician one or two years ago say that he thought there was something wrong with the Polish banking system when Polish companies found it easier to borrow money from foreign banks abroad than to use Polish banks here in Poland. I hope that gives Polish banks the incentive to be more competitive and modernise, so I guess the situation will continue to improve...

HI , i hope it improves...... They are somehow very slow and always stay on the safe side even though they dont know what they are actually doing .... When i was in UK or even Africa and had no problems and i never had to sign ever piece of paper like 500 times that is so stupid hahahahahhahaa Polish firms love it when you sign the docs 500 times ................ In Uk i opened my account in 5 mins and made one signature thats it !!!

That's why we have so much fraud in the UK.

Maybe Poland like to be a bit more thorough when dealing with foreigners - no big deal. Pitty its not like that in the UK, we would have less scum with bank accounts committing money crimes.

ShelleyS does have a good point though - identity fraud is common in the UK but very rare in Poland (at least I have never heard of it here).

Yes fraud is higher in all coutries that have more banks and money than Poland , so yes more money more problems. But anyway i was just saying that the polish banks are very out dated and slow...........

They also have less fraud, so be happy about that, we have a saying in the UK - "all good things come to those who wait" & "if isn't broken, don't fix it"

Not if they keep a tight control on who they give bank accounts to - therein lies the problem, you let every tom dick and harry in and these people abuse the system if it's easy to. If Poland make it difficult to obtain, it might deter people. Whilst Im sure there is a small proportion of the scummy indginious people in the UK who obtain bank accounts for criminal activities, there are a considerable amount that are not indiginous that do it on a much larger scale!

My advice to Poland is be very very fussy who you allow access to. Africans are the worst!

stay away from millenniu

Why is that random? :)
I am with the Millenium Bank and have two accounts, one Business and a Joint Account with my wife and we have never had any problems, in fact quite the opposite they have been great. According to the recent ratings as well, the Millenium Bank came in the top three of best banks in Poland.

We were with PKO BP and they are stuck in the stone age and they wouldn't give us a joint account because I was British, not only that, they kept asking for a stay permit and working visa that were abolished in 2004.

Randompal often has good advice, it'll be interesting to see his response. Millenium have a lot of surcharges and little fees. Millenium have been ok to me, I have 2 accounts like u ukpolska, but they do have high handling fees. Yeah, they have to make their cut but they charge more than other banks.

Randompal did you have a bad experience at Millenium or you just 'heard' things?

They are the only PL bank that I was able to find to give accounts to non EU foreigners. The others wanted things I don't have or can't get. And I don't mean proof of identity...I can do that without a doubt...but rather tax documents and things of ethereal natures.
