i have a female friend in wroclaw. as she told me, her birthday (or namesday?) is in next month. i would like to post her some gift.

she is between 28-31, married, has a child.

just as someone mentioned in the previous thread about expensive gift, i have no idea what is suitable. a painting, toys, chocolate?
and what do you write in the card? just happy birthday?

what is the average income for a high school teacher in wroclaw?

thanks so much.

birthday is different than a nameday

as for the gift, i personally enjoy chocolate on my nameday or birthday, always a winner. books work too..

high school teacher in wroclaw starts off at about 1800 a month before taxes.

thank you, convex.

is 1800 zlt a month under median income?

then, could a gift around 200 be a normal one? that does not make my friend be embarrassed?

One gift idea that's a little different but quite good considering most polish wear slippers is Snug-Bugs leather slippers -

And yes... happy to declare I do have an interest in it as a business.

What is your relationship to her? Is it strictly a friendship or possibly more? 200zl is probably quite high for just a friend, even 100zl may be at the top end but depends on how close and the relationship.

Name day or birthday certainly affects what you write in a card.

1800zl (in the hand) is a little below a typical wage but not a lot. Probably around what I would expect for a high school teacher though.

I once showed the titles of the threads on this forum to a Polish friend and he doesn't understand why some people think that Poles are not common humans that would like a gift that any other human would also dig.

A good birthday gift for an American woman is as suitable for a Polish one. Stop being so hillbillish!

In Wroclaw, public school teachers start off at 1800 a month before taxes. Yea, it's pretty low. It's still better than what train drivers...and tram and bus drivers make.

A good birthday gift for an American woman is as suitable for a Polish one. Stop being so hillbillish!

amen.

only thing is, a lavish gift to a married woman from a foreign guy might cause a bit of tension...

Chocolate and on a card wishes either formal or informal.

Unless she's a very close friend/potential romatic interest try and stay within 50zl, chocolates and a card with wishes are enough in such a case.

I generally stick to chocolades, unless its family or close friends or my ex to whom i send a wet condom every year.

Buy her as much beer as you can and then promise her a better life in your Western country. Any Polish girl digs that.

I love this forum more and more with every second spent here... I could say someone pays you guys to say things like that... Are you so bittered because some Polish chick rejected you and chose someone with more beer and a better or more western country???

As to gifts: 50 zł should be the up boarder. Ideas: book, cd, simple earrings, box of chocolates, art stuff (small sculpture, photo frame, candle, aroma diffuser, etc.)

Sadly ,not. I am as poor now as on the day I joined this forum to spam it.

Considering that I have never been with a Polish girl ,I couldn't have possibly lived that situation.

Fail.

Damn!

By the way, when I said that any Polish girl could "dig" a money gift, it doesn't mean they are golddiggers( No pun intended). It means that they could LIKE It...you know...dig...like...heh.
