Online dating sites (opinions)?

What do you think about online dating sites? If you were single, would you join and pay for such service? Would you pay to meet a Polish bride? :) What do you like and what dislike about such services (I know there are lots of sites to indroduce Russian women, but Russian women aren't the same as Polish women, are they?). I'm a web developer and my boss asked me to look into this "business". Opinions are welcome.

Pay? So, is this a dating service or buy a Polish wife service? Once you add the word "bride" to the equasion, you're basically making the impression that you automatically get a bride out of the deal. This may cause some problems. Tell your boss to stick with a "singles" dating site....like Match

Well, good idea if you live in Poland. What if you live in another country where there's no Polish community?

Thanks for the suggestions. I think there are people (young) who prefer to date, but there are also those who don't want to wait (are elder) or are too busy to date and "try out" other girls. I know it's impossible to get a bride rightaway, but I tend to thing the elder guys are more to the point and know what they want.

I hope that you're not referring to the US. We have many Polish communities.

but I tend to thing the elder guys are more to the point and know what they want.

And what about the women?

"I hope that you're not referring to the US. We have many Polish communities."

No, I know there are lots of Polish communities in the US. Even so, I don't think men who don't speak Polish benefit from that...

"And what about the women?"

Well, that's the question too. I think women wouldn't be willing to pay for the service to introduce them to the man, would they? So men would be more in control since they would pay (but women would be able to select/approve/disapprove the man of course).

But would have better chances with a native Pole not knowing the language?

I hear that they have these services with Philipino and russian women...selling them in catalogs. It's a pretty sleezy business in my eyes.

But I'm 1 opinion. There are probably many desperate men out there that would do this.

You wouldn`t find any Polish women who`d be so desperate to participate on such a site. Now I know that for some Americans the World looks this way..

..but you should know that Russia.. not mentioning the Philipines is a developing country.. and there is really a huge difference between Poland, Russia and the Philipines..

btw. Poland is not Holland :)

But why would a man look a girl from a developing country? I think Polish women aren't good wives just because they live in a poorer country - it's because of their unique values, culture, isn't it?

I`m going to put this to you straight.

I`m not saying that it`s in 100% of the cases that way - but in general this whole "bride" issue is looking this way:

On one side, in countries like Germany or the US there some middleaged losers, who for whatever reason couldnt get a woman in thieir own country...

They usually don`t have absoloutely any chance of finding a woman beside going to a borthel or ordering a woman out of the catalogue..

On the other hand in countries like Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova there are a lot of women who look like these:

they usually come from very poor rural areas - but in most cases are velry well educated (the university education has been/still is 100% free in the former USSR) - in most cases they are very smart - but at the same time quite poor - the only thing that they don`t have is $

....

I can tell you that - if we`re talking about Russian brides - then after less than 1 year this guy is going to be scammed by that girl and her boyfriend.

...

When we`re talking about brides from Asia - the philipinos and the Thai are much peacefull people - and the result of this is that at least when it comes to Germany - the loosers there often aren`t allowing their Asian women outside their house - and it is often so that they are the sexslaves of those sickos.

All of that is a huge industry - but luckily you ain`t going to find it here.

I like the girl, dont like the guy ;).

But I think some people (especially from the US) confuse these two things: they think Polish and Russian are almost the same since the both nations speak a similar language and share the border (not to mention living in the same political system for quite a while). But in fact Poles are very different from Russians, aren't they? I think Russian girls are more for the money than the overall quality of life while Polish girls aren't that desperate to get money - they prefer to have a happy life with a good man.

I personally know two Polish guys - they were born here in the US, but their parents were immigrants so they know Polish and English well. For some reason they like Polish women better than their American peers and one day the two of them asked me if I knew any Polish girl they could date (my wife is Polish so maybe that's the reason :) - I hope not"). In addition, more and more young Polish people work and stay in other countries [I've heard in some regions in Poland there live only old people or very young children] so it's natural for them to find a girl with the Polish roots, isn't it?

Well, I`d say that there is as much similarity between us and the Russians as between the British and the Germans. There is a lot of history between brittain and Germany. English is a Germanic language and the Brittish royal family is connected with Germany - but beyoned that there is no similarity.

so it's natural for them to find a girl with the Polish roots, isn't it?

If they have Polish roots then it`s quite natural... or if they`re what I call "good Americans" - there`s nothing wrong with it. But if they want to find a Polish girl cose they belive that a Polish girl i.e. likes to stay at home and that an average Polish girl is "traditional" then they aren`t going to find what they are hoping for.. and if they are like Karl-Heinz here - then they re just funny pittyful people..

I've heard in some regions in Poland there live only old people or very young children

Yes, this is true - but only if you ask some of the peasants.

Is she from Poland - or the Polish immigration who came to the US somewhere in 1800s ?
OP Chris2

She lived in Poland for 20 years then immigrated as a student to the US (we got married when she was 26).

Well, I`d say that there is as much similarity between us and the Russians as between the British and the Germans.

I think it's a very good comparison when I think about it now...

So she`s probably from a smalltown or village... ?

Don`t get me wrong here - compared to countries like Holland or the UK we are indeed a Atraditional society - and it is good that it is this way, cose that what is going on in those contries is going sooner or later lead to a catastrophy - but in general the women here like to go out.. ..and we don`t have such a tradition - at least since the last 60+ years - as it is the case in the US - where women stay at home instead of going to work.

i personally don`t know any housewifes here - beyoned my - rural part of family.

Ok, I got your point -- but I think we got confused. I don't think a man who would seek a wife in Poland is looking for a housewife, do you? I think a good wife isn't a housewife - she's rather a partner (who can take care of home and family of course). But my wife works full time and I wouldn't want her to stay at home all the time ;).

Then I don`t understand what an American would expect to find - so special - in a Polish women - in specific - that he would say: I would like to have a Polish woman - and only a Polish woman.

Polish woman aren`t different from American or other European women.

Tend to be prettier though ;) Also, they are catholic which shapes their lives in a better way.

Much more beautiful! I don't think the younger generation is as religious as maybe their parents/grandparents. This is only speaking from my own observation. It may vary throughout Poland.

This is a good point - but this can be said also about i.e. the Italians or S. Americans

Forgot to add - Polish men/women tend to easily accomodate eg. it's not hard for them to move to another country, learn the language, find a job... sometimes it's amazing to see a person from Poland who achieved more within 5 years than a "citizen" for 30 years.

Yes - this is true - but I can tell you that the Vietnamese are much better - at least those who who are comming here.

So I really don`t know why you`re so obsessed with us :)

MSN's got a very good service ive had several successes with.

match.com

its not that expensive to contact memebers and it is infact free to put up a profile and pics of yourself for others to contact you.

Well, I'm quite late to post here but I would suggest one free dating site named okcupid.com. I already have tried this site and I have had some great dating experiences on this site. I liked this site because I got everything for free like - profiles, pictures, tests, personals, match rankings, etc.. I already got success on this dating site so I would not like to pay for any dating site.

Why pay for a dating site when you have plentyoffish.com for free?

I used to meet girls off the internet every weekend a few years ago. Most of my ex girlfriends I had met in my old city of Nottingham from the internet. Me and my mate used to do it for fun. It's the nervousness of meeting someone I didn't know that made it exciting and enjoyable. I miss those days!
