Polish Youth - are they violent?

One thing that pisses me off is that whenever there's a holiday and all businness is closed, the only thing open besides gas stations are 24h liquor stores. In New York, liquor stores have to close around 10pm or somethin like that, I think they should introduce that here in Warsaw.

although i hear that there are a lot of Hooligans in most of the big cities, and that they are pretty racist.

Put it in perspective. Poland IS a white country and it's a fact. Whether you consider it good or not is your private issue. What Poles think about it is their issue too.

There are probably more racially diversified people in Poland now, but just to give you an idea about what you are into - until I left Poland in 1987 I saw 3 (that's three) black people in Poland. One was at the airport, the other two were students in the University I went to.

What you see in Poland now is not necessarily worse than say, Astoria (Greek and Italian parts) or Whitestone in late 80's/early 90's. A black fella was not able to buy a house in Whitestone. The neighbors would rather set the house on fire (and they did). Where I lived in Astoria you would not see a black person, except for a delivery truck driver, certainly not after dusk. Heck, as Pole I needed a recommendation from a Greek guy to be able to rent an apartment there.

Change takes time, and I see that's what was needed in some of the parts of NYC that I knew to be very racially tense and uncompromising.

From my experiences in Poland, I've met some really scary looking guys (all skinny and scowley skinheads) who turned out to be absolute sweethearts once I got talking to them.

I think that you don't understand the meaning of freedom, maybe you miss the times when yours were told what to do...

Yep, I dont thinnk excess regulation will make things any better. Sweden is worst nanny state there is, yet they have lots of drunken violence still

I'm not advocating excess regulation, I just mentioned ONE item. If you have drunks wandering the streets late at night, then you close down the liquor stores after a certain hour, very simple!

And New York this New York that, what bothers you about that Grzegorz? I'm trying to come to conclusions by means of comparison. So yeah, in NEW YORK, THIS alcoholism business was a problem, so was prostitution, drugs and things like that, so they closed down most sex shops, put tighter restrictions on alcohol vendors (like making them close earlier) and so it is in NEW YORK, THAT people are much safer and happier in these respects. You can go overboard, and in NEW YORK, THIS has happened with Giuliani when he basically turned the city into a police state. New York this, New York that, yes - very fascinating, very instructive too.

You think so? Maybe that's a bit extreme bit I think you could have a point there. The vast majority of low income Poles may not have been abroad further than the Czech republic or Slowakja.

No I don't think so. I was being sarcastic.

Umm...wont they just store the liquor before the shops close. I have felt much safer in Poland with its 24h liquor stores compared to Finland with its after-9 p.m. ban on any alcohol.

ummm again... Dutch are very tolerant about drugs and prostitution and never felt unsafe because of the their liberties. They felt far more unsafe with the Muslim immigrants and extremists who refused to integrate to their society.

It's like the Italians and Spanish they introduce the children to wine with dinner, for the kids as they get older, alcohol is no big deal, these are two counties I have never seen drunken kids in the street, Im not saying that they dont use booz but I think it's not as common...Oh didnt American have a prohibition period, people still made home-made moonshine which was stronger and more dangerous...

So instead of drinking liquor, you are going to drink gasoline?
OP masks98  27 | 289

I like the smell of gasoline, but otherwise I could just go for a bottle of water or coke sold in the gas station kiosque

You like getting sniffing gas and snorting coke? Do you snort the coke, for the come down off the gas? At least gas is cheaper.

Or maybe I have completely misunderstood and by gas you meant petrol?

As for Polish violence, Cracowia or Wisla football matches are always a great time if you want a fight.

funny you mentioned the cracovia wisla thing, I just finished watching some documentary about them, pretty sad and pathetic waste of Polish youth.

Nothing but you simply make yourself look like a redneck.

Don't want to burst your bubble G but it's you who looks like the redneck. I mean geez, you're from some little provincial city that few have ever heard of. What do you really know about life in the 'big wide world'?

the "new york lifestyle" has absolutely nothing to do with where you are now in Poland. Poland is not America and will never have a NYC in it so you might as well meet some cool people while your there and quit hating on everyone else thats isn't nice because everywhere INCLUDING NEW YORK has crappy people living there.

Arrogance breeds arrogance and there is alot of it in this country. Masks is correct when he says that the youth in this country walk round like they own the place. I come from the Welsh valleys and have seen some S*** there but never experienced being jumped cos I come from the same island as Howard Webb. I ended up in hospital and just got out this morning. they gys who attacked me couldnt have been more then 16 and 7 of thm had me at once. Where is the bravery in that???

yep, they said that Webb cause a Polish humiliation and that I should be punished for what my country did.

This is typical of people here, always looking for a scapegoat for the country's problems. I even heard an interview with the Polish prime minister a few days ago condemning Webb. Maybe they ought to look at Lewandowski and his yellow card that he also mananged to obtain today.

last year in munchen I met up with some of my friends traveling and some how this young (around 20) polish nationalist was there. Which was awkward... for the fact he would say stuff like what those kids said to you of course he only deemed me acceptable to talk to after he figured I was polish... funny thing is he wasn't really even all polish his grandparents were. I find this really odd. But I also find the fact that any one could justify Webb as an excuse to attack another person horrifying... truly sorry not all youth is like that

I wish I could post an email on here that I recieved yesterday showing Webb deat threats. If the adults of this country act like this how can we expect the youth to act any better.

The Police wer not at all interested and told me its better if I kept quiet. There is gonna be a major football tournament here in 2012 and so ppl her need to change their attitudes cos otherwise there will be loads of trouble and the Poles will then realise theyve bitten off more than they can chew.
