sports clubs for kids in Wroclaw?

Hi all!

Our family is considering of moving to Wroclaw from Finland and we've been wondering what's the best way to find a sports club for our children. Our eldest son is 9 years and is really keen on football and icehockey - we would like him to continue his hobbies in Poland as well. Younger kids prefer swimming etc. just for fun. Are there some teams / clubs in Wroclaw that we could ask from, or is it like in the US where the sports teams are part of the school???

Thank you for any advice :)

Hi, I'm a Wroclaw resident myself. There are all sorts of clubs you and your kids can join just look for them on google.pl.

I know for sure that there are junior soccer clubs, junior baseball club, I'm not sure about ice hockey tho.

that's what I found about hockey on the site of Polish Hockey Association (pzhl.org.pl)
it looks like the nearest town to Wrocław with hockey clubs is Opole, which isn't close enough for a 9 yrs old kid to go to :(

Opolski Okręgowy Związek Hokeja na lodzie
45-083 Opole ul.Barlickiego 13
tel./fax. 0-77 4544800

(for younger children)
UKS ORLIK
przy Szkole Podstawowej Nr 6
45-083 Opole
ul. Barlickiego 13 fax. 0-774539161

(for youth)
MIĘDZYSZKOLNY UCZNIOWSKI KLUB HOKEJOWY - ORLIK
45-015 Opole, ul. Barlickiego 13
tel./fax (0-77) 4419759

probably among the biggest cities in Poland, Wrocław and Poznań don't have hockey clubs at all, there are hockey clubs in Warsaw, £ódź, Kraków, Gdańsk, Katowice, Bydgoszcz, Toruń, generally hockey is very popular in Katowice area (Śląsk - Silesia) near Kraków and in highlands areas (Podhale with Nowy Targ, Krynica, but also in Sanok which is in Bieszczady mountains, closer to Ukrainian border)

Thanks Ronek and Krzysztof for your advice :)
Good to know that at least soccer can be found for juniors! Hockey would be great, too. How long does it take to drive from Wroclaw to Opole? We've been driving for games for some years now... (Our son has determined to take Teemu Selanne's place in the future .. ;)

well it dosnt take me more then 35-40minutes normal driving. but hell you can make it in 25 if you're in a hurry and the freeway is clear.

to go into Teemu Selanne's footsteps, your son would probably need a better coaching level than in Poland, I have no idea how good these school clubs are, but our national team isn't a match for top teams at any age category. When he's older you may consider sending him to a club in the Czech Republic, it's not as close as Opole, of course, but they know how to play hockey for sure :)

40 minutes is not so bad ! But then again , all we need is an ice rink... we could set up a new team "Wroclaw Warriors" -haha- . My husband is also a Finn and has been coaching the kids for 5 years. But neither of us speaks polish yet, might delay things a bit ;)

you will have no problem with an ice ring in Wroclaw.

but sports that are realy popular here are soccer, basketball and valleyball, and we even have 2 american football teams ;)
