Why Poles don't use Facebook?

I know there's this 'nasza klasa' page; I joined that lately, didn't like it much… I mean so many ads everythwere; flash ads in the background, say what? So I was wondering… what's the main reason ppl in PL are not using facebook (It has a Polish language support, unlimited posts, picture albums etc. way better privacy) ??

I bet it's not many Poles know of it, and many foreigners are there :)
Do you see thousand of poles here? Nope

I switch my facebook to polish sometimes for a little forced learning.

There is a European community, eupee.com, where quite a lot of Poles are members.

I guess many people thinks it's enough with nasza klasa. But I also know many Poles that do have a Facebook account.

Most of my UK Polish friends have Facebook accounts (as well as Nasza Klasa), probably because they have British friends now who don't speak Polish and wouldn't sign up to Nasza Klasa. Nasza Klasa is marketed better in Poland where peoples "friends" are most likely to be Polish and speak Polish.

I switch my facebook to polish sometimes for a little forced learning.

Good idea. :)

I guess facebook is one of those things, you either love it or hate it, a little like marmite.

I think it takes over some peoples lives though, i mean at work, at home and even on nights out i see people on their phones facebooking people who are in the same club!!!! I mean what is that all about???

I do not have a use for facebook as i tend to write e-mails, texts, phone calls etc etc. Anyway all that time you could spend sat at home of Facebook!!! What is the point when you could be out with the same people or visiting them!!!

I suppose the only good thing about facebook is that you can find people with similar interests to discuss things with, i don't know, footy, make up, shoes or whatever. There is also the 'search' option which allows you to look for people that you may not have had contact with for years, pretty good i guess.

However my pet hate and reason for not using it is there is so much crap on there, i just want to send a message, i'm not interested in Zombie bites, facebook poker, roller coaster whatever its called, animal farm and all these other things.

Don't know what anybody else thinks but in my view its a bit overated and in a few years time will be sidelined by something else, its like any sort of fad, its around for a while then eventually drops off.

P.S.

I'm not Polish and i assume that as facebook is mainly typed in English, that there are other similar sites for our European neighbours.

I keep in touch with friends who live abroad though, and also when Polish friends visit PL they send pics, messages. Plus I caught up with a bunch of people I went to school with and this is significant because this year our school gets demolished...

Could be. Also the same reason Twitter gives the message "too many Tweets" and crashes almost daily.

as facebook is mainly typed in English,

Facebook has language options.

Like Pirate... ;)

i only use it when i'm not doing anything else, and i'd definitely not be on it whilst out with friends lol, that's a bit worrying! if you don't like the applications you can block them.

hay i did say it was good for this sort of thing :) I'm on about the sad cases who sit on facebook talking to their local friends, lol, that is just so strange having like a 30 min facebook converstaion when your going to see them later. I can imagine for some people they talk and talk away and when they actually meet later that night, silence hits.

Facebook has language options.

ok fair point, i didn't know that, as i said i'm not a user so don't know even the bread and butter parts.

i only use it when i'm not doing anything else

I think that is probably the best/only time facebook should be used, i mean its hard to imagine that people pick spending time on facebook rather than doing other activities!!

and i'd definitely not be on it whilst out with friends lol, that's a bit worrying!

I know, i could not beleve it!! I thought that when people first told me about it they were pulling my leg, however i've seen it for myself!!

if you don't like the applications you can block them

again thats probably due to my ignorance of facebook that i didn't know that

Yes and thank goodness, there are so many of them and mostly worthless.

They actually have a good language selection. Fair play to them on that. :)

It's a bit strange to check the site the day after a night out and find posts saying "Oh was out with PD last night, wicked." blah blah.

Anyway, why don't Polish people use Facebook? Too busy socialising. ;)

yeah you've just reminded me of something, there are those people who post their life story on facebook, for example:

11AM
'Got up late this morning as i had a mad night out, i'm gunna have some beans on toast with cheese, yyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh'

12PM
'Writting this damn covering letter for my application with IBM, ggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, i hate these things!!!!!!!!!!!!!'

1PM
'My phone keeps going off with messages reminding me of what i did/should not have done last night, why was i so bad!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH'

and so on and so on, that is probably just as sad as those who are using facebook when they are out, its like 'shut the **** up, nobody is interested!!!!' i just don't get it

They actually have a good language selection. Fair play to them on that. :)

well i will take your word for it

I know. ;) I was talking about the useful points of FB. :)

ok no dramas

i know of drunk dialling/txting, but drunken facebooking? ;)

well i will take your word for it

it's a fact. scroll right down to the bottom of your homepage, and on the left underneath your friends' status updates you will see - most likely - English (UK). click on that and check out just how many languages there are.

facebook

Employers sometimes use facebook & myspace to find out personal info, regarding current & potential employees.

Be very careful not to provide tooo much private info!

Facebook kicks ass.

NK is for 16 year old kids right?

It's like Polish myspace.

NK is for 16 year old kids right?

not really, it's like a fusion between facebook and friends reunited where you can find loads of people you went to school with (virtually every school has it's profile on there now) even if those schools don't exist anymore. NK has millions of users both young and old. it's a bit of a rip off when you gotta pay for extra picture uploading space or to see who's been viewing your profile but they gotta make money somehow. although it makes you think they'd have enough just with those crappy adverts pasted all over the site...

Yeah I had an account there once but it started to bore me... maybe its the friends I kept there, it just seemed like people trying to look cool to me.

or to see who's been viewing your profile

You have to pay for that now?
JustysiaS  13 | 2235
20 Aug 2009 /  #27
You have to pay for that now?

the last 3 people who viewed you are free to check out, but any more than that you gotta pay for. same with those dodgy little gifts, but then you have to pay for gifts on facebook as well.
Lefty  13 | 124
20 Aug 2009 /  #28
Yeah I never bothered with the gift thing. Waste of time and money if you ask me.
tornado2007  11 | 2270
20 Aug 2009 /  #29
, but then you have to pay for gifts on facebook as well

i never have/will get the idea of the 'virtual gifts' If i want to send somebody a gift i will do it for real, lol. Is there something wrong with me or what??

If i want to show a friend i appreciate them, i may buy lunch/dinner, pints/drinks, tickets, etc etc, i guess that is old fashioned and out dated now!!! lol
