Retire in Poland - Good or Bad Idea?

In america, we have to deal with the same kind of women who are really uneducated, yet landed a marriage with a rich man, somehow, without a brain. They also flaunt their status to those of us who are educated and who would not be bought for any price. You can also hold your head high!

Poland is the cheapest country of all in the EU ? Please ! I think Bulgaria had the lowest price level for goods and services of all 27 EU member states - see this - retirement-homes-bulgaria.com/bulgaria-with-cheapest-consumer-goods-an d-services-in-eu-27/

it is not Poland but UK that old people are starved to death in hospital because nurses are so busy to help them

Just today there was an article in the Polish papers how a doctor looked over a sick patiernt and said "He doesnt interest me, wheel him out of here" where the man was then wheeled out the front door of the hospital, and left to die on the bench out front. The article speculated that the man looked too poor to treat. This was in the royal city of Krakow.

Retire to Poland? Often (not always) the weather is truly dreary, the health service sucks (even the private ones can be crap), and you need that dog-eat-dog instinct to survive...well unless you are retired, but be aware that as soon as your new townfolk learn that you have come from the US or UK to retire they will probably be scheming how to screw you out of your cash;) You'll hear this warning from many Poles themselves.

As to Aaaargh, very funny...and lots of truth to what you wrote although brutal, but then again even urban Poles look upon "na wsi" with true horror. There has always been a big divide here between urban folk and rural backwards bumpkins.

As to the above poster who said that returning to Poland and being in awe of the joy of hearing Polish everywhere around you...that will eventually wear off. Poland is getting expensive, wages are static, customer service stinks, officials can be a real pain (as the doctor in Krakow showed us), and yeah it was fun, but....

...stuff it, time to haulass back to Pyongyang!!

ZUS will diddle you somehow. Poles have many stories about the pitfalls of this institution. Sorry to belittle it but it really doesn't seem as secure as a UK-based package would be. Still, the retirement options themselves are plentiful, you just need to know what you want to do. You could take up flying or open a steak house, whatever takes your fancy.

at the risk of going off topic, what's this supposed to mean?

He meant that they were the only defeated nation, I think. Hmm...odd thought indeed :(

Take time?? Like 65 years? This is the nonsense that some spout here. He might just be too lazy to analyse current trends.

You sound like the sort of typical British whinger who can't appreciate the good things about the UK.

sounds like ze Poleesh, who do love to complain and ineed seems to be a national sport. moral to this thread...."The grass is always greener somewhere else."

You sound like the sort of typical British whinger who can't appreciate the good things about the UK,so you go overseas and continue whinging because you can't appreciate any good things in your new country.

Really? i have never heard a whining brit up till now.

The price has to go to the following nationalities:

-Americans
-Spanish
-Italians
-Polish
-Greeks
-Russians

Perhaps you could give some reasons to back up your accusations and prizes. The Brits love a good moan, i should know i am one.

America at the top!! nows theres a surprise i know they moan about Obama but cant think of any thing else really, they are the opposite of moany if you ask me.

Well that was my opinion on my own knowledge. I had some American collegues/acquaintances in some countries i worked/studied before, and man they sure were whining about how everything was not as it was done in the US. That was tiring!

But i have to change my list and put the Spanish first, we have a lot of them here, some are friends of mine, but they are always whining, why is amsterdam so expensive, why are house so small, why the streets are too crowded, spanish foods is the greatest, why this, why that...man!! sometimes i feel like tshhh!

And so on and so on!

Youre talking from a patriotic point of view in that case the US wins hands down, thats not the same as moaning though. Humm what is moaning? i wonder.

Yes, but it is of course only a game that locals can play: any foreigner who dares venture even a word that something could be better in Poland will instantly unite all Poles against him.

Perhaps , in the company of strangers this can happen , but not among friends.... I am always quick to moan about anything thats bad in Poland , and i usually find my Polish friends have the same complaints....I am always ready to shout about the things in Poland that are better than the UK too , so people do understand i am not just an anti Polish moaner....
